Indians escape Washington with win

WASHINGTON - The Marion Indians put on a Houdini act in the second half to get out of Washington with a 13-10 win.

After going up 13-0 early the Indians needed a magic act to escape the Demons’ offensive threats repeatedly late in the game Friday night.

“We feel a little fortunate but it also shows our kids' heart,” Marion Coach Tony Perkins said on getting the win. “The defense played exceptionally well.”

The Indians (3-1) overcame multiple fumbles and denied the Demons points numerous times when the Demons (2-2) were within striking distance for a game-winning touchdown or game-tying field goal.

TIFFIN - The Marion Indians were trimmed by Clear Creek Amana, 25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, in a Wamac Conference match in Tiffin Tuesday night.

Amanda Sahm collected 43 assists for Marion and Abby Phillips had 42 digs.

Marion defense blanks Anamosa

Having more than 10 penalties in a game is bad for a football team.

Marion had 10 in the first half on Friday against Anamosa.

Thankfully for the Indians, 10 is the same number of total yards they allowed the Raiders in the first half.

They will take the good with the bad.

Marion’s smothering defense held Anamosa scoreless and, generally, yard-less in helping the Indians defeat the Raiders, 28-0, at Thomas Park.
