Marion girls put clamps on Vinton

The sixth-ranked Marion girls basketball team held Vinton-Shellsburg to just six field goals in a 46-25 win Tuesday in a Wamac Conference game at Marion.

The Indians jumped to a 10-2 lead in the first four minutes before leading 17-11 at halftime.

Chloe Rice scored 11 points for Marion (7-3).

Vinton-Shellsburg fell to 3-9.

Marion wrestlers split Wamac meets

The Marion wrestling team split a double dual Thursday at Marion, beating Benton Community 43-36 and losing to Center Point-Urbana 39-34 in Wamac Conference action.

Caleb Conway and Colin Conway had two pins at 145 and 152 pounds, respectively, to lead the Indians. Brady Bartz also had a major decision and a decision at 160.

Marion boys fall to Western Dubuque

Jacob Manderscheid scored 18 points and Baylor Fish added 12 as the Marion boys basketball team fell to Western Dubuque, 55-44, Tuesday in a Wamac Conference game at Marion.

Jordan Lake had 18 points to lead Western Dubuque (6-2).

Marion fell to 3-6.

No. 5 Marion girls fall to No. 4 Bobcats

EPWORTH – The fourth-ranked Western Dubuque girls basketball team rallied in the second half and beat No. 5 Marion, 52-46, Tuesday in a Wamac Conference game at Western Dubuque.

The teams fought to a 24-24 tie at halftime, but the Bobcats pulled away in the second half.

Megan Maahs scored 22 points for Western Dubuque (9-0), shooting 12-of-13 from the free-throw line.

Chloe Rice led the Indians (6-3) with 17 points. Mia Laube added 13 points.

Marion boys rally to trim Cascade

CASCADE - The Marion boys bowling team rallied in the baker round and trimmed Cascade, 2591-2570, Monday at Cascade Lanes.

The Indians trailed after the first round, 1737-1697, but an 894-833 advantage in the baker round proved the difference.

Jarrett Steward rolled a 199-206=405 series to lead Marion.

MARION: Parker Ridge 141-182=323, Nate Meister 136-145=281, Dylan Nash 168-173=341, Dakota Timmerman 175-172=347, Jarrett Steward 199-206=405.
