Prairie girls win Muscatine Relays

MUSCATINE — The Cedar Rapids Prairie girls track team won eight events and captured top honors at the Dick Washburn Invitational in Muscatine on Thursday.

Eilish Stanek won the 3000 (11:49.3), Hailee Montgomery claimed the 100 hurdles (15.63), Jocelyn Wood captured the 800 (2:29.56), Kenzie Soeken took the 200 (27.73) and Natalie Rumer won the shot put (37-8 1/2).

The Hawks also won the shuttle hurdle relay (1:09.34), the distance medley (4:37.67) and the sprint medley (1:54.34).

Prairie finished with 192 points to easily win the meet. Dubuque Hempstead placed a distance second with 124.5 points. The Washington Warriors finished fifth out of seven teams.H

1. Prairie 192, 2. Hempstead 124.5, 3. Bettendorf 117.5, 4. Muscatine 79, 5. Washington 74, 6. Burlington 69, 7. Davenport North 24.

Mineck lifts Prairie in overtime

Sam Mineck scored in the first overtime Thursday night to give 16th-ranked Prairie a 3-2 victory over Waterloo West in a Mississippi Valley Conference soccer match at Prairie.

Nerm Ibrahimovic and Spencer Gaddis scored goals in the first half to give the Hawks a 2-1 edge at intermission.

Prairie raised its records to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the MVC.

Prairie netters topped by Rams

DUBUQUE - The Cedar Rapids Prairie boys tennis team lost to Dubuque Senior, 8-1, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet in Dubuque Tuesday.

Brandon Bruhn and Evan Gaskill won 7-6, 6-3 at No.3 doubles for the Hawks.

Prairie girls nip Lions for title

Cedar Rapids Prairie won the 31st Annual Washington Warriors girls track meet by the slimmest of margins Tuesday night at Kingston Stadium.

The Hawks nipped the Linn-Mar Lions, 146 to 145.5, for top honors in the seven-team field.

Hailee Montgomery won the 100 hurdles and ran the anchor leg on the triumphant shuttle hurdle relay for Prairie. Kenzie Soeken took the high jump, and Rachel Griffin captured the discus for the Hawks.

Prairie also won the 4x100 relay with Paige Pritts, Soeken, Alexa Martin and Madison Dellamuth.

Stephanie Jenks won the 800 (2:17.04) and 1500 (4:40.51) for Linn-Mar. The Lions also claimed the 4x200 relay, the 4x400 relay, the sprint medley and the distance medley.

Prairie ranked in boys soccer poll

Five boys soccer teams from the Cedar Rapids Metro area are ranked by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association in the first poll of the regular season.

The Xavier Saints are the top team in Class 2A.

Kennedy, Washington and Linn-Mar are ranked 3-4-5 in Class 3A,  and the Prairie Hawks are ranked 16th.

Iowa City West is the No.1 team in Class 3A.
