Prairie rallies past Solon, 8-4

Caleb Davison and Tyler Votroubek drove in two runs apiece to rally No.6 Prairie past Solon, 8-4, Tuesday night in a non-conference baseball game at Prairie.

Solon scored three runs in the top of the first inning.

Prairie (25-12) scored two runs in the first inning and two more in the second to take a 4-3 lead.

Prairie sweeps into 2nd place in Valley

WATERLOO - Cedar Rapids Prairie swept a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader at Waterloo West Monday, 11-1 in five innings and 13-6, to finish in a tie for second place in the Valley Division standings.

The sixth-ranked Hawks raised their records to 18-8 in the MVC and 24-12 overall. They tied Linn-Mar for second place in the division, one game behind Wahlert (19-7).

Ty Mougin belted a home run and Mitch Adams allowed only one unearned run in four innings as Prairie captured the first game. Caleb Davison, Tyler Votroubek, Trey Beckman and Corbin Day had two hits apiece.

Prairie up to No.6 in final baseball rankings

Cedar Rapids Prairie moved up one spot to No.6 in the final Class 4A baseball rankings released Monday by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Cedar Rapids Xavier held onto the No.10 spot in 4A.

Ankeny remained the No.1 team in Class 4A. Iowa City West moved up one spot to No.2, replacing West Des Moines Valley, which fell three spots to No.5.

Prairie makes 5A regional finals

Joe Yegge has injected new life into the Cedar Rapids Prairie softball program this season as their new head coach.

Now the Hawks are one win away from reaching the Class 5A state tournament, but they'll face a stiff challenge in the regional finals Tuesday night when they visit No.4 Pleasant Valley.

Prairie earned a trip to the regional finals Saturday night by spanking Linn-Mar, 8-2, at the Prairie field.

Prairie salvages split with City High

It wasn’t as if there was a full moon Friday night.

In fact, the moon was but a sliver as the Prairie and Iowa City High baseball teams played for more than three hours in one of the wackiest games you’d ever see.

The second game of their Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader had everything, in abundance: Passed balls and wild pitches, overthrown bases, a crucial balk, hit batters, lots or errors and hits galore.

Prairie finally won it, 11-10, after doing its best to give it away.
