St. John wins 145 title for Prairie at Geneseo

GENESEO, Ill. - Skyler St. John won the 145-pound title at the Geneseo Invitational wrestling tournament to help the Prairie Hawks finish third in the team standings.

St. John defeated Corey Abernathy of Waverly-Shell Rock, 8-1, in the championship match of the 20-team tournament.

Waverly-Shell Rock captured the team title in a close battle with Bettendorf and Prairie. Waverly-Shell Rock finished with 193 points. Bettendorf nipped Prairie for second place by a half-point, 182 to 181.5.

Three Prairie wrestlers finished second in their weight class with Josh Wenger (126), Trey Blaha (138) and Andrew Netolicky (285) reaching the finals before falling.

Hanna's heroic shots lift Prairie

Hanna hit two phenomenal shots Friday night to give the Hawks a dramatic 61-59 overtime victory against Washington in a dramatic Mississippi Valley Conference duel at Prairie.

Franklin delivers in the clutch for Warriors

Cedar Rapids Washington passed the basketball eight times in the final 24 seconds Friday night before Dani Franklin got the ball in front of her own bench.

She let it fly just in time.

Franklin drilled a long 3-pointer at the buzzer as the No.8 Warriors stopped Prairie, 65-62, in an exciting Mississippi Valley Conference game at Prairie.

Prairie boys fall to City High bowlers

IOWA CITY - Iowa City High put the pressure on Prairie in the first round and the Little Hawks beat the Hawks, 2959-2625, Friday in boys bowling at Colonial Lanes.

Josh Kacena shot high (223) and series (404) for Prairie.

Wes Kirchner had the line for City High, tossing games of 244 and 237 for a 481 series.

City High built a 240-pin lead in the first round.

Blood fires Prairie girls past City High

IOWA CITY - Rylee Blood had the line for the Prairie girls Friday, firing games of 227 and 207 for a 434 series that led the Hawks past Iowa City High, 2643-2286, in an MVC bowling match at Colonial Lanes.

Prairie led by 250 pins after the first round.
