Prairie decks Xavier and Waterloo West

WATERLOO - Prairie wrestlers recorded 12 pins and steamrolled Xavier and Waterloo West Thursday night at West High School.

The Hawks had eight pins in a 63-10 rout of Xavier and four pins in a 45-22 win over West.

Jesse Hynek (220), Josh Wenger and Skyler St. John (145) had two falls apiece.

Prairie dumped by Cedar Falls

A tough season got a little tougher for the Cedar Rapids Prairie boys basketball team Tuesday night.

The Hawks made only 13 field goals and lost to Cedar Falls, 54-42, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Prairie.

Kentrel Smith led Prairie with 12 points. Jace Hanna scored 11.

Prairie girls hit 11 triples in victory

CEDAR FALLS - Cedar Rapids Prairie poured in eleven 3-pointers Tuesday night and topped Cedar Falls, 60-54, in a girls basketball game in Cedar Falls.

The Hawks connected on 11 of 19 shots from 3-point range to subdue the Tigers. Alisa Weiland and Courteney McCrary hit three triples, Olivia Usher and Madison Dellamuth hit two 3-pointers and Cyerra Hutchins made one.

Weiland and McCrary topped a balanced attack for Prairie (9-3) with 13 points apiece. Hutchins and Dellamuth netted 12 points apiece.

Prairie wrestlers roll to Ames title

AMES - Prairie crowned four champions Saturday and won the Jack Mendenhall Invitational wrestling meet.

Prairie topped an 18-team field with 218 points. Dowling Catholic was second with 173.5. Jefferson tied for 10th with 101 points and Kennedy was 15th with 54.

Prairie placed five wrestlers in the championship round and four won. Sam Uthoff (106), Trey Blaha (138), Skyler St. John (152) and Andrew Netolicky (285) won titles.

Cam Rathje (170) finished second, Jamie Day (145) and Jesse Hynek (220) were third and Casey Becker (195) was fourth.

Weiland, Hawks shoot down Wahlert

Alisa Weiland scored 18 points and led Prairie past Dubuque Wahlert, 54-44, Friday night in Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball.

Both teams were coming off a winter break and no competitive action for about two weeks, but Prairie capitalized on this first game of 2013 and improved its record to 8-3 overall and 6-2 in the Mississippi Valley Conference.

Courtney McCrary, a huge factor on defense, added 14 points. Cyerra Hutches, riding 89 percent free throw shooting, netted 10 points for Prairie.
