Smith sparks Prairie by Muscatine

Kentrel Smith poured in 21 points Saturday as Prairie broke into the victory column with a 74-48 victory over Muscatine at home.

Smith hit three 3-pointers for the Hawks (1-2).

Demetrius Harper added 12 points for Prairie. Luke Rauenbuehler led Muscatine with 14 points in its season opener.

Prairie Hawks shoot down Marion

Courteney McCrary scored 18 points and Alisa Weiland 17 to lead Prairie past Marion, 62-35, Saturday night in a non-conference girls basketball game at Marion.

The win was the fourth straight for Prairie (4-1) after a season-opening loss.

McCrary knocked down four 3-pointers and Weiland had three.

Madison Dellamuth added 11 points for Prairie.

Prairie rolls to Independence title

INDEPENDENCE - Prairie crowned four champions and had seven runnerup finishes Saturday en route to the championship of the Independence Invitational wrestling meet.

Prairie totaled 235.5 points to beat Alburnett's 190.5. Xavier was sixth with 92.

Josh Wenger (126), Austin Gould (182), Casey Becker (195) and Andrew Netolicky (285) won titles for Prairie.

Gould beat teammate Cam Rathje in the title bout at 182. Gould won by injury default.

North Scott drops Prairie boys to 0-2

ELDRIDGE - Prairie was held scoreless the first seven minutes of the game and fell to North Scott, 58-42, Friday night in boys basketball.

The loss dropped the Hawks to 0-2.

Prairie played without starting point guard Jace Hanna, who missed a second game because of a stress reaction leg injury.

Prairie girls roll by Waterloo East

WATERLOO - Madison Dellamuth, Courteney McCrary and Olivia Usher scored 11 points apiece Friday night as Cedar Rapids Prairie crushed Waterloo East, 55-17, in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game in Waterloo.

Cyerra Hutchins collected eight points and eight rebounds for Prairie (3-1, 2-0). Alisa Weiland had six steals and Dellamuth had six assists. Dellamuth hit three 3-pointers.

Prairie led at halftime, 37-8.
