Double duty for Yegge: Kirkwood & Prairie softball

Joe Yegge won't have to travel very far for his new job as the softball coach at Cedar Rapids Prairie High School.

All he has to do is leave his office at Kirkwood Community College, drive down Kirkwood Boulevard SW and turn the corner at 76th Avenue. He'll continue to coach Kirkwood in the spring, then lead the Prairie Hawks during the summer campaign.

"I am very excited about this opportunity," Yegge remarked in a news release. "The program has a lot of positive things already in place and some outstanding athletes.

Hanna watches as West thumps Prairie

IOWA CITY - Iowa City West has been used to creating touchdowns through the air this season. On Friday night, they continued this tradition but got creative.

Trojan running back Ezra Reiners borrowed the job of quarterback Nate Boland and threw a 60-yard halfback pass for a touchdown, propelling the fifth-ranked Trojans by Prairie 58-27 at the Iowa City West field.

In the place of their usual heavy dose of pass, the Trojans (4-0) came out pounding the ball on the ground. When Reiners assumed his natural role of tailback, he dominated. He racked up 167 yards and three touchdowns for the game. As a team, West accumulated a whopping 437 yards of rushing.
