Pritts runs 3rd at Pleasant Valley meet

PLEASANT VALLEY - Mitch Pritts of Cedar Rapids Prairie finished third at the Pleasant Valley Invitational cross country meet at Crow Creek Park on Saturday.

Pritts covered the 5-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 10 seconds. His time matched runnerup Caleb Drake of Pleasant Valley, but Drake was awarded second place and Pritts got third.

Prairie finished in sixth place in the 12-team meet.

Prairie's Harper goes crazy against Kennedy

Crazy, crazy, crazy.

How else to describe a football game that featured 74 points, 794 total yards, 40 first downs and a stunning 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown?

One word. Crazy.

Prairie senior DeMetrius Harper caught 13 passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns, and added the kickoff return for a score that led the Hawks past Kennedy, 41-33, Friday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference non-divisional game at Kingston Stadium.

Prairie spikers rally past Wahawks

Halle Lueck had 36 assists and Prairie rallied for three straight wins after dropping the first set and beat Waterloo West in a Mississippi Valley Conference volleyball match Tuesday at Prairie.

West won the first set, 25-19. Prairie ripped off the next three, 25-13, 25-18 and 25-15.

Becca Bell and Malia Gudenkauf had 10 kills apiece, and Megan Sprengeler added seven.

Bell had four blocks. Lueck, Brittney Lash and Amada Stecklein all had 14 digs.

Prairie is 1-0 in the MVC and 1-3 overall.

'The Combo' lifts Prairie by J-Hawks, 28-7

Cedar Rapids Prairie seniors Jace Hanna and Jarred Edmonds have been tossing a football around since they were in middle school.

It paid off handsomely Friday night.

Hanna connected with his buddy for three touchdown passes as Prairie clipped Jefferson, 28-7, in the season opener at John Wall Field.

Edl sparks Prairie at quad golf meet

WATERLOO - Matt Edl fired a 36 Thursday to help the Prairie Hawks finish second in a Mississippi Valley Conference quadrangular meet at the Irv Warren Golf Course in Waterloo.

Grant Simpson of Iowa City High claimed medalist honors with a 35. Edl finished a stroke back in second place.

Waterloo West won the meet with a four-man total of 153 for the nine-hole event. Prairie finished a strong second at 155. Xavier and City High both finished at 159, but the Saints got third on a tiebreaker.
