Warriors net biggest win in 3 years

The Cedar Rapids Washington boys basketball team could finally laugh a little Friday night and enjoy themselves.

The Warriors belted Jefferson, 57-36, on Hall of Fame Night at Washington for their most lopsided victory in three years.

"I think it was kind of an exhale," said Coach Adam Sanchez. "We've had all this anger built up in close losses and close games where we've played well in stretches. We finally just went out and played well and were able to take a lead and extend a lead.

"I think we finally got to see our guys take a big, deep breath and have some fun playing basketball."

Franklin leads Wash to Valley title with 35

The Washington Warriors did not look like Mississippi Valley Conference champions when they got drubbed by Iowa City High by 46 points in the season opener in December, but that was eons ago.

Their conference journey had a happy ending Friday night.

Dani Franklin poured in 35 points as the eighth-ranked Warriors clipped Jefferson, 79-65, to claim the outright Valley Division title in the MVC with a 12-1 league record.

Wood helps IC West knock off Wash

IOWA CITY - Kyle Kaness rolled a 410 series and Bryan Cline a 407 in Washington's 2816-2709 boys bowling loss to Iowa City West Friday at Colonial Lanes.

Kaness had high game for the Warriors with a 217.

West's Patrick Wood had high game of 258 and high series of 422.

Wash girls bowlers stumble at IC West

IOWA CITY - Washington fell behind by 214 pins in the first round and was beaten by Iowa City West, 2560-2166, Friday in girls bowling at Colonial Lanes.

Ally Owens shot high game for the Warriors of 182. Kelly Waters had high series of 348.

Carter lifts Cougars by Warriors

The Washington Warriors made a living against Kennedy last season with three victories against the Cougars, but not this year.

A.J. Carter would not allow it.

Carter pitched in 23 points Tuesday night as Kennedy nudged the Warriors, 59-52, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Kennedy to sweep the regular-season series.

Kennedy and Washington could meet again in the Class 4A substate tournament, but for now the Cougars own a 2-0 edge on their cross-town rivals.
