Kennedy matmen bump off Warriors

Kennedy defeated Washington in a Mississippi Valley Conference wrestling meet at Kennedy Thursday night, 42-21.

Both Metro teams lost to Dubuque Wahlert in the double-dual. The Cougars lost to the Golden Eagles, 33-31, and the Warriors fell to Wahlert, 57-10.

Austen Winders (145) collected a pin and a decision for Kennedy. Trey Schuler (132) had a major decision and a regular decision for Washington.

The double-dual was marred by forfeits.

Wash boys dumped by Waterloo West

Alex Landers scored 19 points and Lincoln Conrey collected a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds Tuesday night as Waterloo West spanked Washington, 69-44, in a Mississippi Valley Conference basketball game at Washington.

Jared Printy hit three 3-pointers and scored 11 points for the Warriors (2-6, 2-4). Maurice Arrington grabbed eight rebounds.

Warriors stun No.3 West behind Franklin, Hobbs

WATERLOO - Dani Franklin scored 25 points and Aleena Hobbs added 18 to lead Washington to an 81-68 upset win over No.3 Waterloo West Tuesday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game at West.

Courtney Squires had nine points and Anne Visser eight off the bench for Washington (8-3, 6-1 MVC).

Kate Letkewicz, Blaire Thomas and Sammie Sproul combined for 65 points for West (10-2, 5-2). Letkewicz had 27 points, including five 3-pointers.

Thorson, Saulnier lead Warriors past Cougars

Jared Thorson and Nick Saulnier were quadruple winners, leading Washington past Kennedy, 118-52, Tuesday night in a boys swimming meet at Washington.

Thorson won the 50 freestyle and 100 back and swam on the victorious 200 medley and 400 free relays.

Saulnier won the 200 and 100 free, and swam on the winning 200 and 400 free relays.

Nick Durin and Cameron Kelley were triple winners for the Warriors.

Voss swim meet set for Saturday

The annual Jim Voss Swimming Invitational will be held at Cedar Rapids Washington High School this Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Ankeny, Bettendorf, Cedar Falls, Des Moines Lincoln, Waukesha South (Wis.) and West Des Moines Valley will join Washington in the seven-team meet.

All former Washington swimmers are invited to greet former Washington coach Jim Voss prior to the meet from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the hallway outside the Warrior pool.
