Wash swimmers win 4 events in Ames

AMES - Cedar Rapids Washington junior Jared Thorson collected three gold medals Saturday to help the Warriors finish second at the Mike Wittmer Invitational swimming meet in Ames.

Thorson captured the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly and swam on the triumphant 200 medley relay with Nick Saulnier, Nick Durin and Jakob Kehoe.

Thorson nipped Steve Fiolic of Johnston in the 50 freestyle in 22.38 seconds.

Saulnier won the 100 backstroke for Washington.

Franklin pours in 37 for Warriors

Dani Franklin exploded for a career-high 37 points and grabbed 11 rebounds Saturday as the Washington Warriors dumped Dubuque Senior, 78-57, in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game at Washington.

Franklin, who has signed with Valparaiso University, shot 14 for 22 from the field and went 5 for 5 at the foul line. She nailed four 3-pointers and had three steals.

Anne Viser scored 14 points for Washington (2-1, 1-1). Aleena Hobbs added 13.

Dubuque Senior fell to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the MVC.

Schuler, Dills win titles for Warriors

BONDURANT - Trey Schuler and Dax Dills won titles for the Cedar Rapids Washington wrestling team Saturday at the Bluejay Invitational in Bondurant.

Schuler blanked Austin Moen of Saydel, 7-0, in the championship bout at 132 pounds. Dills trimmed Tucker Ksiazek of Bondurant-Farrar, 4-2, for the crown at 152 pounds.

Noah Fox reached the finals at 195 pounds, but lost to Nathan Jacobsen of Waukee.

Waukee won the team title with 260.5 points. Washington finished seventh out of 11 teams with 172 points.

Arrington nabs double-double for Wash

ELDRIDGE - Cedar Rapids Washington junior Maurice Arrington scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds Saturday night as the Warriors lost to North Scott, 62-40, in Eldridge.

Reid Snitker had four assists for the Warriors (0-2).

Marlon Steward poured in 23 points for North Scott (3-0). Grant Graham scored 17 for the Lancers.

Warriors flattened by Bettendorf, 67-35

Cedar Rapids Washington Coach Adam Sanchez is going to be an expert on the boys basketball ratings by this time next week.

That's unfortunate for him.

Washington opened the season Friday night with a 67-35 loss to Bettendorf, which finished 24-1 last year and played for the Class 4A state title in March.
