Trimble leads Warriors against Trojans

WATERLOO - Waterloo East defeated Washington, 2,561-2,295, in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys bowling meet Friday at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo.

Donovan Trimble led Washington with a 374 series. Braden Schmidt rolled a 414 series for the Trojans.

WASHINGTON: Donovan Trimble 193+181=374, Cameron Trimble 127+124=251, Zach Nading 189+143=332, Chris Schuttloffel 181+118=299, Anthony Valenti 104+162=266, Gabe Wedel 186+109=295.

Strait helps Wash boys nip Hempstead

DUBUQUE - Hunter Strait scored 17 points and made four steals Friday night to help the Washington Warriors nip Dubuque Hempstead, 62-61, in a Mississippi Valley Conference basketball game in Dubuque.

Laveechie Williams finished with 14 points and nine rebounds for the Warriors (3-4, 2-3). Keion Wills contributed nine points and four assists. Maleik Jackson also scored nine points for the winners and Ian Thomas had eight points.

Connor Duax tossed in 19 points for Hempstead (4-4, 2-3).

Washington trailed 31-21 at halftime, but the Warriors outscored the Mustangs 41-30 in the second half. The Warriors won despite being outscored at the foul line, 22-6.

Balanced Washington girls top Hempstead

The Washington girls basketball team went on a 22-9 run in the second quarter and proceeded to beat Dubuque Hempstead, 67-56, Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Washington.

Jayla Johnson led a balanced attack with 16 points for the Warriors (6-5). Payton Bruner had 13 points, Vanessa Eniola scored 12, Joniqua Clark added 10 and Anne Visser chipped in nine.

The Rams fell to 3-9.

Wash grapplers pinned by Wahlert

DUBUQUE – The Washington wrestling team suffered a 50-23 loss to Dubuque Wahlert in a Mississippi Valley Conference dual meet Thursday at Wahlert.

Will Foreman had a 49-second pin over Denver Kammarude at 126 pounds to lead the Warriors. Logan Sears added an 18-2 technical fall in 5:13 over Harrison Haynes at 138.

Wash boys fall to City High

The Cedar Rapids Washington boys basketball team began the new year with a 59-44 loss to Iowa City High in a Mississippi Valley Conference game Tuesday night at Washington.

Hunter Strait led the Warriors (2-4) with 12 points. Laveechie Williams had 10 points. The Warriors made only 15 of 53 shots for 28.3 percent.

Henry Mulligan paced Iowa City High (5-3) with 16 points. Micah Martin had 15 points and Naeem Smith added 13.
