Warriors spike Prairie in straight sets

For the Cedar Rapids Washington volleyball team, a new coach means pretty much the same system that took them to within one match of the state tournament last year.

One in a bunch of first-year Metro coaches, Amy Faulkner took over the Warrior program on the first day of practice in August when former mentor Kari Lombardi resigned to move with her family to West Des Moines.

Faulkner is hardly a rookie, however, having served as an assistant the past three years and as a club-team coach for many of the girls before that.

Lombardi hearing delayed to December

The state disciplinary hearing for former Cedar Rapids Washington teacher and football coach Tony Lombardi has been delayed to December, the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners announced Tuesday.

Lombardi has been charged with four counts of unethical behavior by the BoEE during his years at Washington. Lombardi has resigned all his positions at Washington and is currently living in West Des Moines with his family. He is no longer a teacher or coach at an Iowa school.

The hearing had been scheduled for Sept. 23 and 24 in Des Moines before Administrative Law Judge John Priester. The attorney for the state requested a continuance of the hearing date and Lombardi's attorney did not object.

The hearing is now scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 9 a.m. at the Wallace State Officie Building in Des Moines. The hearing will continue Dec. 4 and 5, if required.
