Warriors swept by Hempstead

DUBUQUE - The Cedar Rapids Washington baseball had a tough day in Dubuque Friday.

The Warriors were swept by Dubuque Hempstead in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader, 5-1 and 9-8.

Hempstead scored three unearned runs in the first game and Washington left seven runners on base. Noah Dostal had two hits for the Warriors (7-4, 5-3).

A.J. Puk had three hits, four RBIs and a two-run homer for Washington in the second game.

 

Warriors gain split with Prairie

Prairie's Katie Kuch fired a one-hit shutout in the opener, but Washington used a four-run second inning to win the nightcap and the teams split a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader Thursday night at Washington.

Malia Gudenkauf had three hits for Prairie (8-6, 4-4) in the opener. Mallory Jones had two hits and drove in two runs.

Payton Bruner scattered six hits for Washington (2-9, 1-6) and was the winning pitcher in the nightcap. She also had three hits.

Emily Oler and Megan Jonas had two hits apiece and each drove in a run for the Warriors in the nightcap.

Baseball draft could have Metro flavor

Major League baseball teams love tall pitchers with strong arms.

That's good, because the Metro area of Cedar Rapids and Marion has plenty to offer for the amateur draft that begins Thursday.

There's A.J. Puk, the 6-foot-7 lefthander from Cedar Rapids Washington with the low-90's fastball and a nasty breaking ball.

Warriors drop 2 squeakers in Dubuque

DUBUQUE - The Cedar Rapids Washington softball team lost a pair of tight games at Dubuque Wahlert Tuesday, 4-2 and 9-8.

The setbacks dropped the Warriors to 1-8 overall and 0-5 in the Mississippi Valley Conference.

Payton Bruner went 3-for-3 with two RBIs for Washington in the first game.

Emily Oler was 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the Warriors in the nightcap. Bruner was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Alanna Arrington had two hits. Bree Linville hit a home run and drove in two runs.

Dobbs pitches Warriors past City High

IOWA CITY - Freshman Johnny Dobbs pitched 6.2 innings of four-hit ball Tuesday to help Washington to a 3-2 win over Iowa City High in a makeup of a baseball game rained out May 28.

Dobbs struck out two and walked one. Noah Burdt got the final out for a save.

Burdt also had two hits and drove in a run for the Warriors (7-2, 5-1). Matt Troendle had a hit and an RBI.
