Wash's 'Big 3' too strong for Jeff girls

The Cedar Rapids Jefferson girls basketball team played an excellent game Friday night, full of energy and passion and aggressive plays.

Unfortunately for the J-Hawks, the visitors from Cedar Rapids Washington had too much firepower and too much size.

Dani Franklin, Aleena Hobbs and Abby Herb combined for 64 points as the Warriors outlasted Jefferson, 79-68, in the final game of the Mississippi Valley Conference season at Jefferson.

Cline has the hot hand for Warrior boys in win

Bryan Cline was red hot for the Washington boys Friday, rolling games of 268 and 213 for a 481 series that led the Warriors past Iowa City West, 3173-2684, in boys bowling at Lancer Lanes.

Three Warriors had 400 series. Quincy Bruce also had the hot hand with games of 223 and 246 for a 469 series. Zach Christensen shot games of 215 and 202 for a 417 series.

Kyle Kaness shot a 224 game for Washington.

Snodgrass leads Warrior girls bowlers past IC West

Courtney Snodgrass shot games of 191 and 179 for a 370 series that led Washington past Iowa City West, 2585-2332, Friday in girls bowling at Lancer Lanes.

Kelly Waters also had a 191 game for the Warriors.

Washington held a 131-pin lead after the first round.

5 Warriors will join college teams

Four Cedar Rapids Washington football players and one volleyball player will continue their careers in college next season.

Jason Oney will play football at Concordia (Minn.), Zac Gillis is headed to Iowa Western Community College, Robert Miley plans to play at Robert Morris (Ill.) and Maliek Ketchens is headed to Cornell College.

Oney and Gillis were named first team all-Metro last season. Oney caught 51 passes for 704 yards and eight touchdowns. Gillis is a lineman.

Warriors whip Cougars for 3rd win in row

It's hard to call a guy the "Metro Coach of the Year" when his team has won only four games all season, but you might want to give Adam Sanchez a serious look.

The young man has performed miracles with the Cedar Rapids Washington boys basketball team this season in his first year as head coach.

The Warriors, winless and hopeless a year ago, drilled the Kennedy Cougars 54-38 Tuesday night for their third Mississippi Valley Conference victory in a row.
