Warriors fade in 4th against Waukee boys

Waukee rallied from a three-point deficit to beat Washington, 41-36, Saturday in a nonconference boys basketball game at Washington.

The Warriors led 30-27 after three quarters, but were outscored 14-6 in the final stanza.

Nehemiah Newman led Washington (1-12) with 12 points.

Michael Jacobson's 16 points paced Waukee (6-6).

Washington girls close enough to perfect

The Washington girls weren’t perfect at home Saturday afternoon against Marshalltown.

They did miss nine free throws, after all.

And once, when Warrior Coach Frank Howell called a play from the bench to go “odd right,” wispy senior point guard Colby Bjornsen went the other way.

Hughes captures exciting 500 at MVC swim

Josh Hughes has been one of the top long-distance swimmers in Iowa during his prep career at Cedar Rapids Washington.

In fact, he probably could have swum all the way from here to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore by now if you added all his miles together in the pool.

Hughes will swim at Johns Hopkins next year and probably major in biology as he works toward a spot in the medical field. For now, he's set his sights on trying to win a state title in the 500-yard freestyle next month in Marshalltown.

Washington boys fall to Cedar Falls

Kalehl Brown scored 19 points to lead Cedar Falls past Washington, 43-29, Friday night in boys basketball at Washington.

Washington (1-11, 1-7) was led by Peter Holmes' seven points. The Warriors were held to eight field goals and shot 20.5 percent from the field.

Herb, Franklin lead No.8 Warriors in win

CEDAR FALLS - Abby Herb and Dani Franklin scored 20 points apiece to power No.8 Washington past Cedar Falls, 64-51, Friday night in girls basketball.

Washington (11-3, 6-2 MVC) sprinted to a 36-19 lead and cruised to the win.

Cedar Falls was led by Madison Wood's 14 points.
