Christensen leads Warrior boys bowlers

Zach Christensen had the hot hand Friday rolling games of 242 and 219 for a 461 series that powered Washington past Cedar Falls, 3084-2457, in boys bowling at Lancer Lanes.

Quincy Bruce added a 424 series for Washington and Bryan Cline shot a 404. Joey Podgorski shot a 231 game and Kyle Kaness had a 223.

Brandon James had a 219 high game and 407 series for Cedar Falls.

Warrior girls bowl over Tigers

Courtney Snodgrass had the line with games of 210 and 197 for a 407 series that led Washington past Cedar Falls, 2592-2366, Friday in girls bowling at Lancer Lanes.

Washington's Keely Pernicka shot high game with a 224.

Washington held a 180-pin lead after the first round.

Burkle's fall lets Warriors beat Wahawks

Washington's Tyler Burkle pinned Waterloo West's John Ramirez at 160 pounds in the final bout of the meet to lift the Warriors past the Wahawks, 39-33, Thursday night at Washington.

The Warriors later lost to Linn-Mar, 70-12. Linn-Mar also beat Waterloo West, 62-14.

Washington trailed West 33-27 after the Wahawks' Jacob Showalter pinned JP Mercado at 145 pounds.

Jared Eicher's fall at 152 tied the match for the Warriors and set the stage for Burkle, who flattened Ramirez in 1:43.

Warriors stay at No.8 in girls poll

Xavier inched up two spots to No.6 in the Class 4A basketball poll released Thursday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

Xavier has been ranked as high as No.4 during the season, but slipped to eighth in last week's poll.  The Saints moved up after beating Kennedy and Dubuque Wahlert last week.

Washington held onto its No.8 ranking in Class 5A.

Ankeny replaced Mason City atop the Class 5A poll. The Mohawks dropped to second.

Ryo Ueno a revelation for Warriors

Washington senior swimmer Ryo Ueno’s meet results Saturday sort of mirrored his brief career as a Warrior.

He’s gone from an outsider to the faster middle lane at the speed of clicking stopwatch.

In his first race of the 18th annual Jim Voss Invitational in the Washington pool he placed fourth. He then took third, was on a second-place relay team and finally climbed the winner’s stand with teammates after a blowout victory in the meet’s premier event, the 400 freestyle relay.
