Warriors drop opener at Bettendorf, 61-40

BETTENDORF - Dylan Sortillo scored 20 points Friday night as Bettendorf defeated Cedar Rapids Washington, 61-40, to ruin Adam Sanchez's debut as Washington's new head coach.

Kendal Jacks added 13 points for Bettendorf. Sortillo made five 3-pointers.

Razadon Taylor led Washington with nine points. The Warriors shot only 29.3 percent from the field (12 of 41).

Franklin nets 27 as Wash girls fall

DUBUQUE - Dani Franklin scored 27 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked four shots Friday night for the Cedar Rapids Washington girls basketball team, but her impressive statistics came in a losing battle.

Dubuque Senior defeated the Warriors, 82-69, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game in Dubuque.

Abby Herb collected 17 points, seven rebounds and three blocks for the Warriors (0-2, 0-2). Colby Bjornsen scored 10 points.

Kaness-led Warriors conquer Cougars

Kyle Kaness had the line for the Washington boys Friday, firing a high game of 259 and a 466 series that led the Warriors to a 2993-2647 win over Kennedy at Lancer Lanes.

Quincy Bruce and Zach Christensen also had the line for the Warriors. Bruce shot a 236 high game and 439 series. Christensen had a 216 high game and 416 series.

Troy McKiernan led Kennedy with a 238 high game and 423 series.

Warriors fall to No. 4 City High

The Cedar Rapids Washington girls basketball team dropped an 82-67 decision to No. 4 Iowa City High in the Mississippi Valley Conference opener at Washington Tuesday night.

Both teams were able to take the ball inside and score, but City High put four players in double figures and that balance proved to be the difference.

“City High has a lot of really nice complementary pieces to go with Haley Lorenzen and that makes them a challenge to defend,” Washington Coach Frank Howell said.

Wash wrestlers sweep openers

Tyler Burkle recorded a fall and major decision Tuesday night to lead Washington to pair of wrestling wins at the Warriors' gym.

Washington beat Marion, 39-30, and Maquoketa, 43-33.

Burkle, Mason Byrne, Trey Schuler and Hunter Swartz had pins for the Warriors against Marion.
