Nzoyisaba places 1st at IC West Invitational

IOWA CITY - Etienne Nzoyisaba won and Washington teammate Joe Berry was third to lead the Warriors to second place Tuesday at the Iowa City West Invitational.

Nzoyisaba ran the 5k course at the University of Iowa in 16 minutes, 1.21 seconds. Mitch Pritts of Prairie was second, 2.53 seconds behind Nzoyisaba. Berry was a little more than four seconds behind Nzoyisaba.

Prairie was fourth in the 13-team field. Kennedy was seventh and Xavier 10th.

Hughes leads Wash swimmers at Tiger Invy

WEST DES MOINES - Jackie Hughes collected a pair of silver medals at the Tiger Tankers Invitational swim meet Saturday at West Des Moines Valley.

Hughes and Kaitlin Wistey of West Des Moines Valley staged a terrific race in the 200-yard individual medley. Wistey touched first in 2:15.68, with Hughes just a whisker behind in 2:15.72.

Hughes also finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke. McKenzie Asplund placed third for the Warriors in the 500-yard freestyle.

West Des Moines Valley won the meet with 545 points. Washington finished sixth and last with 211 points.

Wash, Prairie finish .500 at CF volleyball

CEDAR RAPIDS - The Washington and Prairie volleyball teams broke even at the Cedar Falls Invitational on Saturday.

The Warriors reached the quarterfinals of the championship bracket before losing to Charles City and finished with a 2-2 record in the tournament.

The Hawks reached the finals of the consolation bracket before losing to Marshalltown and finished with a 3-3 record in the tournament on a busy day.

Warriors clipped by Waterloo West, 40-30

WATERLOO - The Washington Warriors got run over Friday night.

Lance Dunn rushed for 258 yards and three touchdowns as Waterloo West defeated the Warriors, 40-30, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Memorial Stadium.

Waterloo West quarterback Alexander Young ran for 114 yards as the Wahawks (2-3, 2-1) gobbled up 370 yards on the ground.

Wash boys 2nd at Eastern Iowa Classic

DUBUQUE - The Kennedy girls cross country team began winning major races four weeks ago when they captured the Prairie Invitational.

They haven't stopped since.

The Cougars made it 5-for-5 Thursday by running away with top honors at the Eastern Iowa Classic on a sunny, breezy day at the Dubuque Soccer Complex.
