Frisch scores pair of goals in win over J-Hawks

Isaac Frisch scored two goals and Connor Ramlo had two assists to lead Class 2A No.2 Xavier past Jefferson, 3-0, Tuesday in boys soccer at Xavier.

Frisch scored his first goal just four minutes into the game, taking a pass from Ramlo.

The game held at 1-0 through the rest of the first half.

Frisch scored again in the third minute of the second half, this time off an assist from Dan Cowden.

Jefferson was forced to open up its defense and Xavier took advantage. Ramlo started the attack with a pass to Frisch on the wing and Frisch crossed the ball to Eli Smith for the goal and a 3-0 lead.

 

No.1 Xavier girls blank Jefferson, 2-0

Kayla Armstrong and Sammi Shepard scored goals to lead No.1 Xavier past Jefferson, 2-0, Tuesday in girls soccer at Lower Kingston.

Armstrong's goal with 27:41 remaining in the first half gave the Saints a 1-0 lead at halftime. Shepard scored an insurance goal with 12:31 left in the game.

Shepard and Marisa Berutti had assists.

Xavier took 34 shots, 10 on goal. Jefferson got off only five shots, three on goal. The J-Hawks did not put a shot on goal in the second half.

Jefferson keeper Madison Weber had eight saves.

Saints boys fall in OT to City High

Iowa City High scored a goal in the sixth minute of overtime to beat Class 2A No.3 Xavier, 2-1, in boys soccer Saturday at Xavier.

The match was a makeup from earlier in the week and was played on a soggy field.

Xavier scored in the 34th minute on a goal by Isaac Frisch. Daniel Cowden got the assist on a through ball, and Frisch dribbled around the City High keeper for the goal.

The Saints' lead last only three minutes.

City High took advantage of a miscommunication by the Saints defense and scored on Fernando Pacheco's goal to tie the game, 1-1.

   

Armstrong's goals carry Saints past City High

IOWA CITY - Kayla Armstrong scored two first-half goals that carried No.1 Xavier past Iowa City High, 2-1, Thursday in Mississippi Valley Conference girls soccer.

Armstrong scored her first goal on a penalty kick with 24:41 left in the first half. Her second goal came with 17:37 left in the half.

City High scored its goal in the first half.

Xavier keeper Sara Chicchelly had four saves.

 

Xavier stays No.1 in girls soccer

The Xavier Saints kept their No.1 spot in the Class 2A girls soccer rankings Thursday with a 1-0 record.

Kennedy (1-2) dropped from No.2 to No.5 in Class 3A. Linn-Mar (1-0) stayed No.7 in Class 3A.
