Saints comeback comes up short

IOWA CITY - Ally Disterhoft scored 30 points and Iowa City West held off a valiant fourth-quarter comeback by Xavier to clip the Saints, 55-52, Friday night in girls basketball.

Kayla Armstrong had 16 points to lead Xavier (12-9, 8-5). Haley Deutmeyer added 10.

Mikaela Morgan scored 11 points for West (16-5, 10-3).

No.1 West boys swat Xavier

IOWA CITY - Jeremy scored 17 points and Wyatt Lohaus added 14 to lead No.1 Iowa City to a 76-31 rout of Xavier Friday night in boys basketball.

Austin Swank added 10 points for West (19-0, 14-0).

Matt Nelson had 13 points to lead Xavier (9-10, 5-9). Corbin Woods added nine.

Torrid Trcka's 514 series leads Saints

Tara Trcka was torrid on the May City Bowl lanes Friday, firing games of 258 and 256 for a 514 series that led Xavier past Dubuque Wahlert, 2664-2565, in girls bowling.

Lisa Olberding shot a high game of 200 for Xavier.

The Saints held a 93-pin lead after the first round.

Saints boys bowlers tumble to Wahlert

Zach Schnoebelen and Brett Young shot 400 series, but their Xavier Saints were beaten by Dubuque Wahlert, 3039-2935, Friday in boys bowling at May City Bowl.

Schnoebelen shot a 417 series with a high game of 247. Young shot a 412 with a high game of 234.

Wahlert's Riley Smith shot a 426 series with a 248 high game. Alex Timmerman also rolled a 248 game.

Xavier pressure stifles J-Hawks

It took the Xavier boys awhile to get into their game on their home floor Tuesday night.

But when they got away from playing Jefferson’s style of slow-ball and picked up speed, they ran right over the J-Hawks, 51-41.

On the heels of three straight long bombs by Creighton Robinson in a minute’s time, Stu Ordman’s Jefferson crew held a 21-7 lead with 5:20 to go in the second quarter.
