Saints back up to 6th in girls poll

Xavier inched up two spots to No.6 in the Class 4A basketball poll released Thursday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

Xavier has been ranked as high as No.4 during the season, but slipped to eighth in last week's poll.  The Saints moved up after beating Kennedy and Dubuque Wahlert last week.

Washington held onto its No.8 ranking in Class 5A.

Ankeny replaced Mason City atop the Class 5A poll. The Mohawks dropped to second.

Saints crown 3 champs at Marion

Xavier crowned three champions en route to a third place finish Saturday at the Loyd Shaffer Invitational wrestling meet at Marion.

Williamsburg won the meet with 200 points. Wilton was second with 195.5 and Xavier third with 191.5. Marion was seventh with 103.

Winning titles for Xavier were Joe Mulangaliro at 126, Nick Drahozal at 138 and Kory Donithan at 152.

The Saints also had a pair of second-place finishers in Jeff Vipond at 106 and Clint Lembeck at 120. Sean Ickes was third at 170.

Stulken helps Saints top Wahlert

DUBUQUE - Ashley Stulken scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds Friday night as the Xavier Saints defeated Dubuque Wahlert, 52-41, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game in Dubuque.

McKenna Anderson scored 11 points for Xavier (8-6, 6-2) and Hayley Deutmeyer netted 10.

Ana Schmitt led Wahlert (3-8) with nine points.

Saints roll by Wahlert in 4th

Xavier outscored Dubuque Wahlert 23-7 in the fourth quarter and strolled past the Golden Eagles, 59-45, Friday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys basketball game at Xavier.

Trey Sampson led Xavier with 17 point. Corbin Woods had 13 and Matt Nelson 10.

Xavier trailed 38-36 after three quarters, but used a 14-3 spurt to build a 50-41 lead with two minutes left.

Trcka fires Saints past Tiger girls

CEDAR FALLS - Tara Trcka fired games of 214 and 222 for a 436 series that led Xavier past Cedar Falls, 2498-2140, Friday in girls bowling at Maple Lanes.

Xavier led by 125 pins after the first round, then buried the Tigers with a 133-pin advantage in the Baker round.
