No. 3 Xavier boys edged by Wahlert

DUBUQUE - The third-ranked Xavier boys soccer team lost to Dubuque  Wahlert, 2-1, in a PK shootout Thursday night in Dubuque.

Luke Duball tied the match for Xavier, 1-1, on an assist from Davis Wagner with about 10 minutes left in the second half.

Neither team scored in overtime or double-overtime.

Wahlert won the PK shootout, 4-3, leaving the Saints with a 5-3 record for the season and their second setback in a shootout.

 

Hoffman nets 4 goals for Saints

Addy Hoffman scored four goals and collected two assists Thursday as  the 11th-ranked Xavier girls soccer team drubbed Dubuque Wahlert,  10-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference match at Heco Field.

Elena Minor collected two goals and an assist for the Saints (5-2). Janessa Klein, Sara Kram, Maddie Andrews and Ellie Fischer also scored for Xavier.

Caitlynn Daniels had three assists. Sophia Alessio, Andrews and Kram also had assists.

 

 

Xavier's Brown wins twice at Vinton

VINTON - Ethan Brown of Xavier captured the discus and shot put titles at the Viking Invitational in Vinton Thursday.

Brown flipped the discus 139 feet, 11 inches and won the shot put with a toss of 48 feet, 11 inches.

Xavier finished second in the team standings behind Benton Community.

The Saints won the 4x800 relay in 8:36.25 with Tyler Dupont, Nathan Skala, Casey O'Connell and Joe Scieszinski.

Josh Volk placed second in the discus (118-6) and shot put (48-5). Grayson Walther was second in the 800 (2:08.81) and Braden Stovie took  second in the 400 hurdles (58.53).

Xavier finished third in the 4x100 relay (4.05), the 4x200 relay (1:35.24) and the sprint medley relay (1:40.76).

Skala ran third in the 800 (2:13.82) and Scieszinski was third in the 1600 (4:51.10).

1. Benton Community 131, 2. Xavier 120, 3. Vinton-Shellsburg 117.5, 4. Marion  76, 5. Belle Plaine 61.5, 6. Springville 45, 7. Iowa Valley 28.

   

Xavier boys tennis slams Prairie

Jon Lansing defeated Evan Gaskill, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1 singles Thursday  as the Xavier boys tennis team downed Prairie, 8-1, in a Mississippi  Valley Conference meet at Prairie.

Alex Hinrichs, Charlie Esker, Blake Magill and Wes Johnson also won  their singles matches for the Saints.

Maddie Abu-Nameh leads Xavier netters

Maddie Abu-Nameh of Xavier defeated Maddy Renner of Prairie, 10-2, at  No. 4 singles Thursday in a Mississippi Valley Conference tennis meet  at Xavier.

Prairie won the meet, 7-2.
