Xavier boys shock Dowling, 65-54

The Xavier boys basketball team handed West Des Moines Dowling its first loss of the season, beating the second-ranked Maroons 65-54 Saturday at Xavier.

Dowling led 25-19 at halftime, but the Saints came alive in the second half, coming back with a 14-9 run in the second quarter and finishing with a 32-20 run in the third quarter.

Mitchell Burger had 17 points for Xavier (6-5), Michael Mims had 16 points, Adam McDermott had 14 points and Calvin Winker had 12 points.

Nick McMurray had 11 points and Ben Olson had 10 points for Dowling (10-1).

WEST DES MOINES DOWLING (54): Strain 2 0-0 5, Schwartz 0 0-0 0, Olson 3 4-4 10, McMurray 4 1-2 11, Fardal 0 0-0 0, Scieszinski 1 1-2 4, Wells 4 0-0 8, Brown 6 1-1 13. Totals 21 8-11 54.

Dowling girls bury Xavier, 63-37

The Class 5A third-ranked West Des Moines Dowling girls basketball humbled Class 4A No. 10 Xavier, 63-37, Saturday at Xavier.

Lizzy Bailey had 10 points to lead the Saints (10-5).

Dowling improved to 11-2.

Xavier girls knock off City High

Lizzy Bailey popped in four 3-pointers and scored 19 points Friday night as the Xavier Saints clipped Iowa City High, 55-51, in a battle of ranked Mississippi Valley Conference teams at Xavier.

The Saints (10-4) are ranked No. 10 in Class 4A. The Little Hawks (9-4) are ranked No. 9 in Class 5A.

McKenna Andersen collected 14 points and eight rebounds for Xavier. Morgan Breitbach chipped in with 11 points.

Ashley Joens led City High with 21 points. Iowa City star Courtney Joens did not play due to a knee injury.

McDermott scores 32 as Xavier boys top City

IOWA CITY – Adam McDermott had 32 points to lead the Xavier boys basketball team to a 69-61 over Iowa City High.

Mitchell Burger had 12 points for the Saints (5-5), who shot 22-of-29 from the free-throw line. The Little Hawks were 3-of-12.

Nile Ringen had 13 points for City High (6-6), and Nate Weiland had 10 points.

XAVIER (69): Mims 3 0-0 8, McDermott 9 10-12 32, Burger 5 1-2 12, Ramlo 2 5-7 9, Welch 0 3-4 3, Winker 1 3-4 5. Totals 20 22-29 69.

Thompson leads Xavier bowlers in loss

Kayla Thompson had a 375 series to lead the Xavier girls bowling team in a 2,630 to 2,247 loss to Dubuque Hempstead on Friday at May City Bowl.

Liz Jan rolled a 368 series and Katlin Weber had a 214 game to lead Dubuque Hempstead.
