Mims faces 90-day transfer rule

Michael Mims will have to wait for 90 class days to elapse before he's eligible to compete in varsity athletics at Xavier High School, according to IHSAA rules.

Mims, an all-conference basketball player, has transferred from Prairie High School to Xavier High School and began attending classes on Monday, according to a story in Tuesday's Gazette.

Mike Winker, the activities director at Xavier, told the Metro Sports Report they have not counted the number of class days that will elapse from Monday through the start of the basketball season.

Mims, a 5-foot-9 point guard, averaged 13.7 points for Prairie this past season as a junior.

Strong doubles play lifts Saints

A perfect day of doubles proved to be key as Cedar Rapids Xavier swept a pair of Mississippi Valley Conference girls tennis matches Saturday at Xavier.

In the first match against Dubuque Senior, the teams split the six singles matches, but the Saints were dominant in doubles and went on to a 6-3 win. Later in the day, a clean sweep in doubles secured a 7-2 victory over Dubuque Hempstead.

Allison Jasper and Claire Bouchard both won in singles and doubles in both matches for the Saints.
