Xavier's Miller makes state bowling meet

MUSCATINE - Xavier High School junior Caleb Miller rolled a 482 series Tuesday at the Class 1A meet in Muscatine Tuesday and qualified for the boys state tournament in Des Moines.

Miller had games of 267 and 215. His 482 series was the fourth-best total of all the Class 1A state qualifiers Tuesday.

Xavier did not qualify for the state meet as a team.

Mount Pleasant, Maquoketa, North Scott, Western Dubuque, Louisa-Muscatine, Waverly-Shell Rock, Sergeant Bluff Luton, Red Oak, Newton and Cherokee advanced to the state meet on Monday, Feb. 24.

 

McDermott paces Saints by Waterloo East

Adam McDermott collected 14 points, five rebounds and five assists Tuesday night as Xavier rolled by Waterloo East, 67-43, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Xavier.

Mitchell Burger and Calvin Winker scored 11 points apiece for the Saints (12-8, 8-7). Matt Nelson contributed 10 points and nine rebounds. Winker had eight rebounds.

Timoz Burford scored 12 points for Waterloo East (5-15, 2-13).

Morgan sparks IC West by Xavier

Mikaela Morgan collected 17 points and 14 rebounds Friday night as Iowa City West defeated Xavier, 49-38, in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game at Xavier.

Lizzy Bailey led the Class 4A No.11 Saints with nine points. Abby Watson had nine rebounds.

Xavier finished the regular season with a 10-11 overall record and 6-7 mark in the conference. Iowa City West is 11-10 overall.

Lohaus paces No.3 Trojans by Saints

Wyatt Lohaus popped in 24 points Friday night and David DiLeo added 18 as third-ranked Iowa City West defeated Xavier, 81-60, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Xavier.

The Trojans (16-2, 12-1) made 68 percent of their shots, hitting 32 of 47 from the floor, including a 7-for-10 performance from 3-point range. Lohaus, who has signed with the University of Northern Iowa, shot 11 for 13.

Iowa City West held a commanding 45-25 lead at halftime.

The Saints (11-8, 7-7) made 54 percent of their shots, but they could not keep pace with the two-time defending state champions.

Regis '3-Peat' saluted at Xavier Friday

Xavier High School will recognize coaches and players from the 1982, 1983 and 1984 Regis High School State Championship boys basketball teams during halftime of the Xavier varsity boys basketball game Friday night.

February 14 marks the 30-year anniversary of Regis completing its "3-peat" of state titles in Class 2A.

The Xavier boys basketball game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Ron Thillen Gymnasium and will be the second game of a boy-girl varsity doubleheader against Iowa City West.
