Xavier's Persick joining Minnesota State

Ryan Persick, an all-state placekicker and punter for the Xavier Saints, has signed a national letter-of-intent with Minnesota State.

Persick kicked 22 field goals and 120 PATs for the Saints and was an instrumental part of their march to the Class 4A state finals in 2012 and 2013. He set five school records with his accurate kicking and averaged 42.2 yards as a punter this past season.

Persick was named second team all-state as a placekicker in 2012 and was named first team all-state as a punter in 2013.

 

McDermott nets 26 in loss to No.1 Rams

Adam McDermott scored a game-high 26 points Tuesday night as the Xavier Saints lost to top-ranked Dubuque Senior, 62-51, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Xavier.

McDermott popped in five 3-pointers for the Saints. Matt Nelson added 11 points for Xavier (9-7, 5-6).

Kyle Haber hit four 3-pointers and led Dubuque Senior (15-1, 11-0) with 22 points.

Xavier wrestlers flatten Kennedy, 62-15

The Xavier Saints won 11 of 14 matches Monday night and defeated Kennedy, 62-15, in a Mississippi Valley Conference wrestling meet at Kennedy.

The Cougars forfeited five weights and the Saints forfeited two matches, so there were only seven actual bouts in the meet.

Both teams lost to Cedar Falls in the double-dual.

Saints put clamps on Cedar Falls

The Xavier Saints held Cedar Falls to six points in the first half Friday night and belted the Tigers, 65-38, in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys basketball game at Xavier.

Xavier led at halftime, 25-6.

Matt Nelson led the Saints (9-6, 5-5) with 14 points and nine rebounds. Frank Hill made three 3-pointers and had 12 points. Adam McDermott finished with eight points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Durrell Jackson led Cedar Falls with eight points.

Deutmeyer paces Saints by Tigers

CEDAR FALLS - Hayley Deutmeyer scored 15 points Friday night as the Xavier Saints topped Cedar Falls, 48-35, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game in Cedar Falls.

Xavier held a commanding 37-16 lead at halftime and won the game despite scoring only 11 points in the second half. Meghan Joens contributed eight points for the Saints (9-9) and Morgan Breitbach scored seven.

Jamie Becker led Cedar Falls (9-8) with eight points.
