J-Hawks torch the lanes in win over Xavier

Jefferson's team had the groove Friday at May City Bowl and the J-Hawks overwhelmed Xavier, 3317-2967, in boys bowling.

Victor Baccam rolled a 514 series and Tyler Fowler a 501 for the J-Hawks. Hunter Sturtz added a 467 and Austin Kluth a 437.

Fowler rolled high game with a 289. Baccam had a 278 and Sturtz a 267.

Caleb Miller rolled a 482 series to lead Xavier. Sam Hart had a 430. Miller also had high game for the Saints with a 259.

4 Saints ready for college signings

Xavier High School football players Matt Nelson, Cole Turner and Daniel Vega will sign their national letters-of-intent on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 7:25 a.m. in the Xavier gym.

Nelson, a defensive end, is signing with the University of Iowa. Turner, an offensive lineman, and Vega, a defensive lineman and linebacker, are signing with Wyoming.

Marisa Berutti, a member of Xavier's championship soccer program, will be signing with Minnesota State on Wednesday at 12:45 p.m. in the Novak Conference Room at Xavier.

 

Deutmeyer sparks Saints by Prairie

Hayley Deutmeyer poured in 26 points Tuesday night as the Xavier Saints defeated Prairie, 63-46, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Xavier.

Morgan Breitbach, Maddie Bertsch and Meghan Joens scored 10 points apiece as the Saints (8-9, 5-5) snapped a three-game losing streak.

Cyerra Hutchins led Prairie with 15 points. The Hawks (6-10, 4-5) lost their sixth game in a row.

Saints blank Prairie in 55-37 win

The Xavier Saints outscored Prairie 12-0 in the first quarter Tuesday night and spanked the Hawks, 55-37, in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys basketball game at Prairie.

Calvin Winker scored 13 points for Xavier (8-6, 4-4). Adam McDermott and Andrew Bisenius netted 12 points apiece.

Michael Mims popped in four 3-pointers and produced 18 points for Prairie (4-10, 2-7).

No.6 Waterloo West stifles Saints

The Xavier Saints got off to a good start against No.6 Waterloo West Saturday in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game at Xavier.

The Saints led 15-10 after the first quarter, but then the roof caved in and they scored only 13 points the rest of the game.

Waterloo West prevailed, 46-28.

Xavier (7-9) scored two points in the second quarter and another two points in the third quarter. Erin Drahozal was their leading scorer with six points.

Blair Thomas led the Wahawks (14-2) with 15 points. Kate Letkewicz had 14.
