Cedar Valley boys thumped by Waterloo

SPRINGVILLE - Timothy Doering pumped in 36 points and Alan Mazzarella had 20 Saturday as Waterloo Christian defeated Cedar Valley Christian, 74-36, in a boys basketball game in Springville.

Mike Scroggs scored 10 points for the Huskies (0-19). Travis Geels and Michael Johnson had nine points apiece.

Hembera stars as CVC gets 1st win

SPRINGVILLE - Shelby Hembera had another huge game for the Cedar Valley Christian girls basketball team Saturday, and this time it led to a big party.

Hembera poured in 41 points and grabbed 25 rebounds as the Huskies topped Waterloo Christian, 53-47, for their first victory of the season after 19 straight defeats.

"It was a big win for the parents and a big win for our girls," said Craig Foote, happy to see his team's hard work pay off in a victory.

Scroggs leads CVC boys in 18th loss

SPRINGVILLE - Tom Scroggs scored 10 points Friday night as the Cedar Valley Christian boys basketball team lost to West Central, 70-32, in a Tri-Rivers Conference game in Springville.

Ethan Steinbronn led West Central with 24 points.

The Huskies fell to 0-18 for the season.

Hembera nets 44 in near-miss for CVC

SPRINGVILLE - Shelby Hembera poured in a career-high 44 points and snared 23 rebounds Friday night for the Cedar Valley Christian girls basketball team in a 56-53 loss to West Central in Springville.

Hembera leads the state in scoring and rebounding, averaging 32.7 points and 15.4 boards for the winless Huskies (0-19). She might have eclipsed 50 points Friday, but missed 11 free throws.

Cedar Valley trailed by one point, 54-53, when Hembera fouled out with 11 seconds left. West Central made two free throws for the final margin.

Cedar Valley Christian led at halftime for the first time this season, 34-32. West Central raised its record to 2-16.

Cedar Valley boys lose 17th in row

CLINTON - The hard times continued for the Cedar Valley Christian boys basketball team Tuesday night with a 75-21 loss to Prince of Peace in a Tri-Rivers Conference game in Clinton.

Tom Scroggs scored six points for the Huskies, who fell to 0-17 overall and 0-10 in the league.
