Hembera pours in 34 for Huskies

TAMA - Shelby Hembera continued to be a one-person scoring machine for Cedar Valley Christian Monday night, but she could not do it alone for her ballclub.

Hembera scored 34 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as the Huskies lost to Meskwaki, 63-36, in a non-conference game in Tama.

Last week, Hembera collected 30 points and 12 rebounds in a 52-33 loss to Central City. The 6-foot junior is averaging 32 points and 14 rebounds and has scored 64 of her team's 69 points in two ballgames.

Warriors overwhelm Huskies at MSR event

Cedar Valley Christian may have given the Washington Warriors a good game last year when the Huskies had five seniors in their starting lineup and the Warriors were coming off a winless campaign with a brand-new coach.

"It's going to be a successful season," he said during practice last Friday. "We're going to have good kids, they're going to do a great job.

"I don't know if we're going to win any games, but they're going to go out and give it a good effort," he said. "And we're going to try and come up with game plans that give us a chance. It's a neat group of kids."

Hembera is bigger, stronger for CVC

The first thing you notice when you walk into the gym at Cedar Valley Christian is that Shelby Hembera has gotten bigger and stronger.

She's still a lanky 6-footer, but her shoulders and arms have gotten noticeably stronger since last season.

The second thing you notice is that Cedar Valley Christian has more than the bare minimum of five players, which was the case at times the last two years.
