Cedar Valley boys win 12th game

WATERLOO - Will Muhlbach, Jon Landis and Jeremy Strutz combined for 56 points Saturday night as Cedar Valley Christian defeated Waterloo Christian, 70-49, in Waterloo.

Muhlbach netted 20 points while Landis and Strutz scored 18 apiece. The Huskies raised their record to 12-8.

Levi Smith led Waterloo Christian (3-17) with 22 points.

Cedar Valley girls fall in Waterloo

WATERLOO - The Cedar Valley Christian girls basketball team fell short in its bid for a three-game winning streak Saturday.

Waterloo Christian defeated the Huskies, 50-40, despite 24 points by Cedar Valley star Shelby Hembera.

Anna Doering scored 21 points for Waterloo Christian (4-17). Izzy Hoffman scored five points for Cedar Valley (3-15).

Huskies stumble at Cal-Wheatland

WHEATLAND - Calamus-Wheatland went on a third quarter rampage to erase a 15-point deficit and went on to beat Cedar Valley Christian, 63-58, Friday night in boys basketball.

Cedar Valley (11-8) held a 32-17 lead at halftime, but was outscored 24-9 in the third quarter.

The Huskies found the range in the fourth, scoring 21 points, but Cal-Wheatland scored 22.

Hembera scores 24 as CVC girls win again

WHEATLAND - Shelby Hembera scored 24 points Friday night as Cedar Valley Christian won its second straight game with a 45-39 victory over Calamus-Wheatland.

The Huskies (3-14) defeated Montezuma, 40-39, on Tuesday and will be aiming for a three-game winning streak when they visit Waterloo Christian on Saturday.

Lindsey Cach pitched in 12 points for Cedar Valley Friday night and Dominique Eniola added eight markers for the winners.

CVC boys will face Highland in 1A playoffs

The Cedar Valley Christian boys basketball team will face Highland of Riverside in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A district basketball tournament on Thursday, Feb. 14.

The game will be played at Highland of Riverside with tipoff at 7 p.m., the IHSAA announced Wednesday.

Cedar Valley Christian (11-7) has won 10 of its last 11 games and drew a bye in the opening round of the district tournament. Highland also drew a bye.

The winner between Cedar Valley and Highland will play Lone Tree, Springville or Lisbon in the district semifinals on Feb. 19. The district finals will be held at Bettendorf on Feb. 21, and the district champion will advance to the substate finals on Feb. 23 at Solon.
