Cedar Valley girls win historic match

First year as a team, first regional tournament, first post-season victory.

That was the story Tuesday for the Cedar Valley Christian girls soccer team, which began play this season for the first time in school history.

The Huskies blanked Benton Community, 2-0, in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A regional tournament at the Tuma Soccer Complex.

Freshman Lexi Miller scored her first goal of the season to give Cedar Valley a 1-0 lead with an assist from Hanna Severson. Junior Megan Slagle made it 2-0 with an unassisted tally.

Cedar Valley kicks Monticello in substate

ANAMOSA - The Cedar Valley Christian boys soccer team blanked Monticello, 3-0, in the opening round of the Class 1A substate tournament Tuesday in Anamosa.

Tom Scroggs, Joey Philipp and Eric Gustafson scored goals for the Huskies. Tom Scroggs and Mike Scroggs had assists.

Cedar Valley will face Bellevue Marquette in the substate semifinals Thursday at Bellevue.

Huskies blank West Delaware

Joey Philipp scored two goals and Tom Scroggs had a goal and an assist as Cedar Valley Christian blanked West Delaware, 3-0, in boys soccer action Thursday night at the Tuma Sports Complex.

Colin Heeren gained the shutout in goal for the Huskies, who scored all their goals in the first half.

Philipp leads Huskies to victory

Joey Philipp had a goal and two assists to lead Cedar Valley Christian to a 3-0 win Monday night over Vinton-Shellsburg at the Tuma Soccer Complex.

Tom Scroggs added a goal and an assist for the Huskies. Brody Hayes also netted a goal for Cedar Valley Christian. Colin Heeren made six saves en route to the shutout.

CVC boys soccer falls twice in tourney

WELLMAN - The Cedar Valley Christian boys soccer team lost both of its matches at the Mid-Prairie tournament in Wellman Saturday.

The Huskies lost in the opening round to Mid-Prairie, 1-0, when the hosts scored with 3 1/2 minutes left in the second half.

Cedar Valley fell to Washington (Iowa), 4-1, in the consolation round. Joey Phillip scored an unassisted goal for the Huskies.
