Krack slugs 5 homers as Eagles win 3

CARTHAGE, Mo. -- Haylee Krack slugged five home runs Saturday as the Kirkwood Eagles won all three of their games at the Crowder Tournament in Carthage, Mo.

Krack, a sophomore from Silvis, Ill., hit two homers and drove in four runs as Kirkwood belted Carl Albert, 12-2, in five innings.

Krack walloped three homers and drove in 10 runs as the Eagles dumped Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, 13-3, in five innings.

The Eagles finished the day with an 8-0 victory over Three Rivers in six innings.

Krysta Tutsch hit two home runs against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. Lauren Weber, Kelsie Campbell and Kayla Tatge also hit home runs Saturday, giving the Eagles 10 homers for the day.

Shyanne Saladino, Amber Logemann and Sam Belz were the winning pitchers for Kirkwood, which raised its record to 7-2.

Kristen Winters drove in four runs against Three Rivers.

Kirkwood splits 2 games in Florida

VERO BEACH, Fla. - Dennis Colon and Eric Schenck-Joblinske hit home runs Friday as the Kirkwood Eagles thumped Miami Middletown of Ohio, 16-4, in the first game of their spring trip to Florida.

Kirkwood (5-1) lost to Miami Hamilton of Ohio, 6-5, in the second game Friday.

Jean Carlos Rodriguez went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs for the Eagles in the first game. Colon went 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Dylan Hast and Shane Kemp drove in a pair of runs.

KCC softball raises record to 4-2

CENTRALIA, Ill. - The Kirkwood Community College softball team won a pair of games from Kaskaskia on Saturday.

The Eagles defeated Kaskaskia, 5-0, in the completion of a suspended game from Friday, then blanked Kaskaskia again, 12-0, with an 11-hit attack.

The Eagles (4-2) played another game Saturday and lost to Kankakee, 2-0, despite a strong pitching performance by Amber Logemann.

Kirkwood women KO'd by Iowa Central

KEOKUK - The regional finals of the women's junior college basketball tournament were held at an elementary school in Keokuk before 96 fans, with coaches and players for both teams sitting on the front row of hard metal bleachers.

That's where the Kirkwood Eagles, once ranked No.2 in the country, saw their promising season come to a disappointing end.

Iowa Central Community College went on an astonishing 19-0 run in the second half and bounced Kirkwood, 71-65, for the Region XI title.

Iowa Central (24-8) advanced to the NJCAA Division II national tournament for the second time in three years. Kirkwood (28-5) went home with an empty feeling.

Kirkwood men ousted by Ellsworth, 70-65

The Kirkwood men's basketball team ran out of patches and bandaids Friday night.

The Eagles darn near ran out of players, too.

It was that kind of a season for Kirkwood, filled with injuries and player defections, but the Eagles went down fighting as best they could.

Kirkwood lost to Ellsworth, 70-65, in the regional semifinals Friday night at Johnson Hall to finish a topsy-turvy season with a 19-13 record.
