Kirkwood women playing in top event

EAST PEORIA, Ill. - The Kirkwood women's basketball team will play in the prestigious Illinois Central Classic this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The eight-team holiday tournament features four teams that are ranked in the latest NJCAA Division II poll with No.1 Lake Michigan, No.7 Kirkwood, No.8 Illinois Central and No.13 South Suburban Chicago.

The Eagles (10-3) will face Cincinnati State (11-1) in the first round at 4 p.m. Friday and could face top-ranked Lake Michigan (9-1) on Saturday.

No. 7 Kirkwood women bop No. 8 Illinois Central

EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- The difference between No. 7 and No. 8 Tuesday night was 20 points.

The seventh-ranked Kirkwood Eagles spanked No. 8 Illinois Central, 72-52,in an NJCAA Division II women's basketball game in East Peoria, Ill.

Alexis Fitzpatrick led Kirkwood (10-3) with 17 points, including 13 in the second half. Bianca Dufelmeier scored 14 points and Kianna Jacobs added 10.

Eagles enjoyed hot shooting on 3-pointers, nailing nine of 14 from behind the arc. Dufelmeier hit four triples for Kirkwood.

Iowa Lakes trips Kirkwood in OT

Doug Wagemester is accustomed to winning basketball games at Kirkwood Community College. It's become a habit.

He entered his 15th year with the Eagles this season with an impressive record of 390-94, which means a typical year produces a final mark of 28-7.

This year's club will have to improve in a hurry to keep the record going.

The Eagles suffered another tough loss Saturday when they fell to Iowa Lakes Community College, 67-64, in overtime in a conference game at Johnson Hall on the Cedar Rapids campus.

Tow enjoys life with No.7 Eagles

Krissi Tow plays on a talented basketball team at Kirkwood Community College and has to take advantage of the opportunities that come her way.

She succeeded Saturday.

Tow scored eight points in eight minutes of the first half to help the seventh-ranked Eagles blast Iowa Lakes Community College, 76-30, at Johnson Hall on the Cedar Rapids campus.

Kirkwood women jump to No.7 in rankings

The Kirkwood Community College women's basketball team climbed 11 spots from No. 18 to No. 7 in the new NJCAA Division II rankings Wednesday.

The Eagles have played a tough schedule this season against some of the top NJCAA Division I teams in the Midwest and have an 8-3 record.

Lake Michigan College is ranked No.1 this week.
