Hansche helps Coe drill Mustangs

Mickey Hansche is a phenomenal 3-point shooter, but she doesn't like to keep track of how many she's made during a game.

"I try not to keep track of it, because I don't like thinking about it," she said Tuesday night.

Just about everyone else at Eby Fieldhouse was keeping track Tuesday as the sweet-shooting junior kept swishing 3-pointer after 3-pointer from long range, some from 25 feet away.

Hansche popped in seven straight 3-pointers before finally missing and poured in 27 points as Coe topped Mount Mercy, 92-73 , in a women's basketball game at Eby.

"Just hitting the first one really opened it up, and then we started driving and we played rally good defense," she said. "That opened it up on offense a lot."

Hansche, a 5-foot-6 junior from Iowa City, finished 7 of 9 from long distance. She set the school record with eight 3-pointers in a single game last season and has an uncanny touch.

Hobbs named IIAC athlete of the week

Coe sophomore forward Aleena Hobbs, a Cedar Rapids Washington graduate, has been named the Iowa Conference's female athlete of the week.

Hobbs scored  career high 28-points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field and pulled down 10 rebouonds in a 70-59 win last week over rival Cornell. It was Hobbs' fifth career double-double.

She was named the IIAC player of the week once last season as a freshman.

Coe men fall to No.21 Robert Morris

OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Coe men's basketball team chopped a 13-point deficit down to just two points in the final seconds Saturday before losing to Robert Morris, 71-68, in the final round of the Oshkosh tournament at the Kolf Sports Center.

Robert Morris is ranked 21st in the NAIA national poll.

The Kohawks trailed by 13 points late in the first half, but they pulled within 70-68 on two free throws by Matt Vonderhaar with 46 seconds left in the game.

Corey McCrary made one free throw to give Robert Morris a 71-68 lead with 17 seconds left.

Jake Timm missed a 3-pointer for Coe that would have tied the game with seven seconds remaining. Vonderhaar grabbed the offensive rebound, but Timm missed another 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have forced overtime.
