Coe men blank Central in soccer

Jake Mills scored in the 18th minute Tuesday and the Coe men's soccer team blanked Central, 1-0, in an Iowa Conference match at Clark Field.

Mills connected from about 10 yards into the bottom left corner of the goal. Eric Hoar, Coe's goalkeeper, was credited with an assist on the play. Ryan Oppegard also got an assist.

Hoar made five saves for the shutout.

Coe raised its records to 6-11-1 overall and 2-5 in the conference. Central fell to 4-13 overall and 1-6 in the league.

 

No. 20 Coe women blank Central

Jordan Holmes scored an unassisted goal in the 48th minute Tuesday to help the 20th-ranked Coe women's soccer team blank Central, 1-0, in an Iowa Conference match at Clark Field.

Holmes connected into an open net from about five yards into the bottom right corner.

MJ Winter made six saves for the shutout.

The Kohawks raised their records to 15-1-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the conference.

 

Coe football falls at Central

PELLA - The Coe College football team changed quarterbacks Saturday, but it did not change the outcome.

The Kohawks lost to Central College, 27-13, in an Iowa Conference game at the Kuyper Athletic Complex in Pella.

Coe has dropped three games in a row.

Gavin Glenn replaced Josh Rekers at quarterback and passed for 216 yards and two touchdowns. Rekers has completed 67.1 percent of his passes this season for 1,890 yards and 11 touchdowns, but he watched Glenn run the club Saturday.

The Kohawks fell to 1-3 in the conference and 2-5 overall. Central raised its records to 2-2 in the league and 4-3 overall.

Coe volleyball splits 2 matches

The Coe women's volleyball team split its two matches at Eby Fieldhouse Saturday.

The Kohawks topped Carroll, 25-22, 23-25, 25-15, 25-17, and lost to Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 25-10, 25-20, 25-20.

Lindsey Koch collected 18 kills for Coe against Carroll. Brianna Smith had 15 kills. Mackenzie Harbaugh dished out 49 assists and Ali Arns had 23 digs.

Smith led the Kohawks against Wisconsin-Eau Claire with 13 kills. Harbaugh had 25 assists and Madi Miller had 15 digs.

The split left Coe with a 19-12 record. Carroll is 11-14 and Wisconsin-Eau Claire has a 25-7 mark.

 

No.20 Coe women tied by Dubuque

The 20th-ranked Coe women's soccer team had to settle for a 2-2 tie with the University of Dubuque in double-overtime Saturday at Clark Field.

Both teams scored in the first half and both teams scored in the second half, but neither club could find the goal in the extra sessions.

Hannah Torry gave the Kohawks a 1-0 lead with an assist from Kelsey Fauser. Fauser made it 2-1 in the second half with an assist from Jordan Holmes, but Dubuque scored three minutes later and that's the way it stayed.

Emily Meeker and Brianna Burkart scored for Dubuque.

Coe fell to 14-1-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the Iowa Conference. Dubuque raised its records to 10-5-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the league.
