Kohawk men split two matches in Florida

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The Coe men's tennis team had a long day of tennis here Monday, winning a morning match against Methodist before falling to Aquinas in an evening match.

Coe, now 12-2, downed Methodist, 8-1. Riley Galbraith had a three-set win at No. 2 as the Kohawks won five of six singles matches.

The Kohawks dropped a 6-3 decision to Aquinas in the night match. Alex Bernt and Ryan Hickman had singles wins for Coe.

Former J-Hawk Olson gets win for Coe

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Former Jefferson all-state pitcher Alyssa Olson picked the pitching win Monday as Coe held off a late Muskingum rally for a 4-3 triumph in college softball action.

Earlier on Monday, the Kohawks crushed Beloit, 13-0, in five innings, behind senior Maliah Fligg.

Olson allowed three runs on six hits, including a solo home run to Laine Walker in the fourth inning.

McCall Meade had two hits for Coe, driving home a run. Former Linn-Mar prep Maddy Ryan had an RBI double in the fourth.

Mariah Fritz got the final two outs to record the save for Coe (6-2).

It was all Coe in the first game as Fligg held Beloit to three hits, striking out five and walking one. Madi Miller had three hits, including a double and a triple for the Kohawks. Meade had two hits, including a home run and three RBI.

Ryan had a double and triple, driving home three.

Kohawk baseball earns first wins of 2016

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Coe baseball team posted its first two wins of the season Monday, sweeping a doubleheader from Husson College.

The Kohawks got a complete game from Thomas Schaedel in the opener, winning 10-1 before hanging on for a 5-4 win in the nightcap.

Schaedel struck out nine and walked two in his seven-inning outing. He allowed one run on seven hits. Catcher Grant Henning had a home run and drove home three runs. Henning, former Linn-Mar standout Michael Redmond, Craig Konrardy and Alec Zwanziger each had two hits for Coe (2-1). Zwanziger also drove home three runs.

In the nightcap, Coe jumped to a 4-0 lead with four in the top of the first and held on from there.

Ben Larison had three hits and two RBI for the Kohawks. Konrardy and Henning each had a pair of hits.

David Keaton got the win for Coe, allowing four hits and three runs over four innings. Lucas Robbins pitched the final three innings to pick up the save.

Coe continues play on its Florida trip Tuesday with games against Oglethorpe University and Beloit College.

Split for Kohawk women's netters

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Coe women's tennis team moved its record to 9-4 on Sunday with a 6-3 win over Oglethorpe University on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, the Kohawks dropped a 9-0 decision to Saginaw Valley State University.

Laura Birky, Amy Sebastian, Tamara Washington and Kaitlin Fosler all had singles victories in the win over Oglethorpe for Coe. The Kohawks also captured the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches.

Coe returns to action on Tuesday in Florida, meeting Ohio Wesleyan University and Haverford College.

Coe men's tennis takes a pair

The Coe men's tennis team moved to 10-1 with a pair of wins on their spring trip to Florida on Sunday.

In their opening match at Altamonte Sprrings, Fla., the Kohawks rolled to an 8-1 win over Clark University. Alex Bernt was an impressive 6-0, 6-1 winner over Andrey Samodaev at No. 1 singles.

Later in the day at Orlando, Coe earned a hard-fought 5-4 victory over Oglethorpe University. The teams split the six singles matches, but Coe took wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to secure the win.

The Kohawks (10-1) play Methodist College and Aquinas College on Monday at Altamonte Springs.
