Coe men dunked by Central, 71-54

Colby Taylor scored 21 points Saturday and Matt Greenfield added 19 as Central College handed Coe its eighth straight loss in Iowa Conference games, 71-54, before 748 fans at Eby Fieldhouse.

Andrew Wirth scored 17 points for Coe (9-12, 1-9). Central raised its records to 15-6 overall and 8-2 in the league.

Coe netters open year with 2 wins

Riley Galbraith, Ryan Hickman, Sean Stokstad, Alex Bernt and Michael Janssen won both of their singles matches Saturday as the Coe men's tennis team opened the season with a pair of victories at the Clark Racquet Center on campus.

Coe blanked Elmhurst, 9-0, Saturday morning and knocked off Monmouth, 7-2, Saturday evening. The Kohawks are ranked No.7 in the ITA Central Region.

Deeds, Bybee place 2nd for Coe track

GRINNELL - Alex Deeds placed second in the weight throw and the shot put for the Coe College track team Saturday at a meet in Grinnell.

Laura Bybee placed second for the Kohawks in the women's pole vault.

   

No.11 Coe wrestlers top Cornell

MOUNT VERNON - The 11th-ranked Coe wrestling team collected extra team points at five weight classes Friday night and defeated No.18 Cornell, 27-12, before 1,040 fans at the Small Multi-Sport Center in Mount Vernon.

Dimitri Boyer, ranked No.2 in NCAA Division III at 157 pounds, had the only pin for the Kohawks.

Beau Westpfahl (141) and Farai Sewera (165) picked up technical falls for Coe. Ethan Ball (174) and Ryan Sheldon (184) had major decisions and Jimmy Gotto (133) won a regular decision.

One of the featured matches came at 197 pounds, where fifth-ranked Alex Coolidge of Cornell trimmed No.10 Donnie Horner of Coe, 4-1, in overtime.

Coe men fall short, drop 7th straight

STORM LAKE - The Coe men battled back from a 16-point deficit against Buena Vista, but lost their seventh straight game, 80-74, Wednesday night in Iowa Conference basketball.

Andrew Wirth scored 23 points to pace the Kohawks (9-11, 1-8).

Cole Darrow scored 24 points to lead Buena Vista (11-9, 6-3).
