Late Dubuque spurt ends Coe win streak

DUBUQUE - Dubuque used a 10-2 spurt late in the game to break away from Coe and dealt the Kohawks a 65-56 loss Saturday in Iowa Conference women's basketball at the Stoltz Sports Center.

Mackenzie Reed paced Coe (10-9, 5-3) with 18 points. Devin Hayes added 10 points and Mary Halvorson came off the bench for seven points, nine rebounds and three assists.

The loss snapped the Kohawks' four-game winning streak.

Franklin wins triple jump for Coe

CEDAR FALLS - Kirstin Franklin of Coe won the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet, 5.25 inches in the college division at the Jack Jennett Invitational track meet Saturday at the UNI-Dome.

Laura Bybee placed third in the pole vault for the Kohawks at 9 feet, 10 inches.

The Coe men's track team collected three runnerup finishes with Shea Devine in the mile (4:31.61), Erik Franklin in the triple jump (43 feet, 1/2 inch) and Alex Deeds in the shot put (48-3 1/4).

 

Drahn places 2nd in long jump for Coe

CEDAR FALLS - Kenzie Drahn of Coe College finished second in the long jump Friday at the Jack Jennett Invitational in Cedar Falls with a leap of 15 feet, 11.75 inches.

The second day of the meet will be held on Saturday.

   

Coe dunked by Auggie swimmers

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Coe women won one event and the men were shutout Friday night in college swimming against Augustana College.

Augustana won both meets. The Augustana women beat Coe, 156-72, and the men won, 184-47.

Coe's lone victory came in the women's 200 freestyle relay. The quartet of Lindsay Meade, Kenni Sterns, Katy Appler and Laura Finneseth turned in a time of 1:48.71.

Boyer notches 100th win in Coe loss

INDEPENDENCE - Coe's Dimitri Boyer won his 100th match, but the No.11 Kohawks were no match Thursday night for top-ranked Wartburg.

Wartburg beat Coe, 24-10, in an Iowa Conference dual wrestling meet at Independence High School.

Boyer beat Brett Yonkovic, 5-2, at 157 pounds to become the 11th Kohawk to notch 100 wins.
