Coe men drop 5th straight

PELLA - Nile Eckermann scored 20 points Wednesday as Central College handed Coe its fifth straight loss in an Iowa Conference game, 74-63, at Kuyper Gym in Pella.

Andrew Wirth led the Kohawks (9-9, 1-6) with 14 points. JT Vonderhaar and Matt Daoust added 10 points apiece. Max Schmarzo grabbed eight rebounds.

Coe is tied for last place in the Iowa Conference with Simpson.

Hansche paces Coe women by Central

PELLA - Mickey Hansche topped a balanced attack with 14 points Wednesday as Coe defeated Central College, 61-44, in an Iowa Conference women's basketball game at Kuyper Gym in Pella.

Mackenzie Reed had 10 points for the Kohawks (10-8, 5-2), who are in third place in the Iowa Conference standings. Allie Wirth grabbed eight rebounds.

Kenzie Vander Molen scored 15 points for Central (9-9, 1-6).

Coe shot 45.5 percent from the floor and hit 16 of 18 free throws. Hansche made four 3-pointers.

Ball notches 3 pins as Coe sweeps

DUBUQUE - Ethan Ball collected three straight pins at 174 pounds Saturday as Coe won all three of its matches at an Iowa Conference meet in Dubuque.

The 12th-ranked Kohawks topped No.7 Luther (26-12), Loras (29-9) and Simpson (55-0).

Farai Sewera had a big day for Coe with a pin, technical fall and major decision at 165 pounds. Josh Donkle (149), Dimitri Boyer (157), Ryan Sheldon (184) and Donnie Horner (197) won all three of their bouts for the Kohawks.

Coe will meet top-ranked Wartburg Thursday night in Independence.

   

Coe sweeps Simpson in swim meets

INDIANOLA - The Coe College swim teams splashed to Iowa Conference victories against Simpson at the YMCA pool in Indianola Saturday.

The Coe men prevailed, 115-91, with Andy Cheng, Logan Barnes, Tim Bosn and Tucker Dangremond all winning two individual events and combining to capture the 200 medley relay.

Cheng won the 1000 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Barnes took the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, Bosn claimed the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, and Dangremond won the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.

Coe wins 3 events at Cornell track

MOUNT VERNON - Laura Bybee captured the pole vault for the Coe College women's track team Saturday by leaping 10 feet at the Cornell Invitational.

Erik Franklin won the triple jump for the Coe men's track team with a combined leap of 39 feet, 10.75 inches.

The Kohawks claimed the women's 4x200 relay with Amanda Brummet, Emma Gitomer, Kenzie Drahn and Sara Bechard sharing the baton.

Bechard placed second in the high jump and Kirstin Franklin was second in the triple jump. The Kohawk women picked up third-place finishes from Brummet (60 dash), Franklin (400 dash), Beth Heims (mile) and Ashley Nemechek (60 hurdles).
