Kohawks ride hot 2nd half to victory

The Coe College women's basketball team shot 59.3 percent from the field in the second half Saturday and defeated Luther, 73-57, in an Iowa Conference game at Eby Fieldhouse.

The Kohawks trailed at halftime, 30-29, but they hit 16 of 27 shots in the second half for the victory. Coe raised its records to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in the league.

Megan Hayes led Coe with 17 points. Lindsey Buckles scored 13 points, Mackenzie Reed had 12 points and Allie Wirth had nine rebounds.

Taylor Johnson poured in 27 points for Luther (10-7, 1-5).

Coe can’t find footing against Luther

Coe suffered its fourth straight loss in an Iowa Conference game against Luther Saturday afternoon at Eby Fieldhouse, 90-70.

“I thought we were pretty good offensively all night, they were just great offensively, and we couldn’t find a way to slow them down,” Coach Bryan Martin said.

The Kohawks (9-8, 1-5) held an early 5-0 lead in the first two minutes, but the Norse (10-7, 2-4) tied it 7-7 with 14:58 left in the first half and took the lead for the rest of the game.

Dangremond leads Coe swimmers in meet

Tucker Dangremond won the 100 breastroke for the Coe Kohawks Friday night in their Iowa Conference swim meet against Luther at Eby Fieldhouse.

Luther won the men's meet, 131-51, and captured the women's competition, 170-47.

Logan Barnes placed second in the 100 backstroke for Coe and Andy Cheng placed second in the 100 butterfly.

Lindsay Meade, Kenni Sterns, Katy Appler and Andi Queisner claimed the 200 freestyle relay for the Coe women. Kendallyn Recker placed second in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving. Appler placed second in the 100 breaststroke.

   

Coe women triumph with last-minute push

After initially trailing Dubuque for the first quarter, the Coe women’s basketball team managed to come back and win 85-77 in the Iowa Conference game Wednesday night at Eby Fieldhouse.

The lead changed nine times as the Kohawks (8-8, 3-2) battled back and forth with the Spartans (11-5, 4-1).

Mackenzie Reed was the top scorer with 22 points for the Kohawks. Reed said the team mentality was to “work the ball around and just be patient; don’t rush into any shots.”

Unbeaten Dubuque men stop Kohawks, 66-56

Gage Heffernan scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead unbeaten and No.25 Dubuque past Coe, 66-56, Wednesday night in Iowa Conference men's basketball at Eby Fieldhouse.

Heffernan, a 6-foot-4 junior, prepped at Western Dubuque and played for Kirkwood for two seasons before joining Dubuque (16-0, 5-0 IIAC) this season.

Andrew Wirth scored 17 points for Coe (9-7, 1-4) to lead all scorers. The loss was the Kohawks' third straight.

JT Vonderhaar and Jacob Timm added 10 points apiece for Coe. Christian Fahey grabbed eight rebounds.
