Graceland trims Mustang volleyball

LAMONI - The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team suffered another tough loss Saturday with a 25-15, 27-29, 18-25, 25-20, 15-13 setback in a Heart of America Conference match to Graceland.

The Mustangs enjoyed a 2-1 lead after three sets, but they could not finish the match with a victory.

Kayla Daggett dished out 45 assists for Mount Mercy. Becca Thomson had 20 kills, Maddie Bell 12 and Alyssa Weldon 11. Lauren Stopko had 33 digs and Sam Whalen 23.

Mount Mercy women boot Evangel

Carly Walker and Maisey McCoy scored goals Saturday as the Mount Mercy women's soccer team blanked Evangel, 2-0, in a Heart of America Conference match at the Plaster Athletic Complex.

Walker scored in the 51st minute with an assist from Andrea Lopez for a 1-0 lead after a scoreless first half. McCoy tallied six minutes later on an assist from Jamie Hill.

Sarah Johnson made three saves for the shutout.

Mount Mercy men edged in OT

The Mount Mercy men's soccer team was defeated by Evangel, 4-3, in overtime Saturday in a Heart of America Conference match at the Plaster Athletic Complex.

The Mustangs owned a 3-2 lead late in the second half on goals by Souleymane Diallo, Rafael Passanha and Duarte Leite, but Evangel tied the match in the 85th minute and prevailed in the second minute of overtime.

Sarrive Rukakiza and Passanha collected assists for Mount Mercy.

Mustangs fall short at Peru State

PERU, Neb. - The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team pushed Peru State  to the limit Friday but fell short, 3-2, in a Heart of America  Conference match in Nebraska.

The Mustangs won the first set, 25-12, but Peru State captured the  second set 25-18 to square the match.

Mount Mercy took the third set, 25-22, for a 2-1 lead, but Peru State  countered again with a 25-22 victory to square the match again.

Mount Mercy raced to an 8-3 lead in the fifth and decisive set, but  Peru State got hot and won 15-11 for the victory.

Mustangs booted in double OT

Amgad Hassan of William Penn scored in the 109th minute of  double-overtime Wednesday night to give the Statesmen a 2-1 victory  over Mount Mercy in a Heart of America men's soccer match at the  Plaster Athletic Complex.

Suleymane Diallo gave Mount Mercy a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute with  an unassisted goal, but Victor Hernandez countered for William Penn in  the 66th minute to knot the match at 1-1.

Nobody scored for another 33 minutes until Hassan delivered the  game-winner with just 59 seconds left in double-overtime.
