Zeitler sparks Mustang women to victory

Makenzie Zeitler collected a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds Saturday to help the Mount Mercy women's basketball team dump York, 65-41, in a women's basketball game at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Chelsey Lampe led the Mustangs with 13 points and Abby Herb netted 12 points in a balanced attack.

Mount Mercy built a commanding 42-12 lead at halftime and cruised to the 24-point victory. The Mustangs raised their record to 9-11 as they push to get over the .500 mark for the campaign.

Mackenzie Eller scored 11 points for York (5-8).

Mustangs hold off York, 103-99

The Mount Mercy men's basketball team poured in 103 points Saturday afternoon and needed nearly all of them to escape the Hennessey Recreation Center with a victory.

The Mustangs trimmed York, 103-99, in a high-scoring affair that featured nine players scoring in double figures.

Ben Struss came off the bench to pop in four 3-pointers and 22 points to lead Mount Mercy (15-5). Antwain Strong pitched in 14 points, Kyle Lamaak had 12, Derik Gogg 11 and Chris Ford 10.

Ford stuffed the stat line with his 10 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

Mount Mercy women win 4x800 relay

DUBUQUE - The Mount Mercy women's track team captured the 4x800 relay at the Sol Butler Classic Saturday in Dubuque.

Melissa Armendariz, Jazmine Reynolds, Allison Scott and Kathryn Vander Poel won the race in 10 minutes, 5.23 seconds.

The Mount Mercy women got second-place showings from Bri'anna Branch in the 55 meter dash and the 4x200 relay.

Laura Bybee of Coe placed third in the pole vault.

Chris Hawkins of Coe finished second in the men's long jump and placed third in the 55 hurdles. Beau Freeborn finished second in the 600 for the  Kohawks and Ben Nelson was third in the 600.

Mount Mercy men roll at Clarke

DUBUQUE - CJ Parker scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Mount Mercy cruised to a 93-71 men's basketball victory over Clarke on Wednesday night.

Mychael Brawner also finished with 15 points. Tre Wagner chipped in with 13 points. Sheawn Bedford, Jr. had 11 and Ben Struss finished with 10 for the Mustangs (14-5), who finished with a 53-29 rebounding advantage.

Haris Takes paced Clarke (8-8) with a game-high 19 points. David Neis finished with 12 points.

Balanced attack keys Mustang women

DUBUQUE - Abby Herb's 22 points paced four Mount Mercy players in double figures as the Mustangs rolled to an 83-60 women's basketball win over Clarke on Wednesday night.

Alisa Weiland added 19 points while Makenzie Zeitler added 18 points and 9 rebounds for the Mustangs (8-11). Ashley Dolan had 14 points for Mount Mercy.

Clarke (9-10) was led by Kelsey Ernst with 14 points.
