Heick nets 6 RBIs as Mustangs split

Mount Mercy third baseman Jess Heick drove in six runs Tuesday as the  Mustangs split a Heart of America Conference softball doubleheader with William Penn at Busse Field.

Mount Mercy won the first game, 7-3. William Penn took the nightcap, 7-6, in nine innings.

The split left Mount Mercy at 19-9 overall and 12-4 in the conference. William Penn is 16-22 overall and 7-11 in the league.

Heick went 2-for-3 and drove in four runs in the 7-3 victory in the opener. Payton Bruner was 2-for-4 with two doubles and scored twice.  Jolona Shield was 3-for-4. Morgan Braughton was 2-for-3.

Jayna Witzany pitched four shutout innings in relief and got the victory. She allowed only one hit.

Jackson gets 6 hits as Mustangs split

Mount Mercy center fielder Evan Jackson collected six hits Tuesday as  the Mustangs split a non-conference doubleheader with Missouri Baptist  at the Plaster Athletic Complex.

Missouri Baptist won a pitchers duel in the opener, 2-1. Mount Mercy  responded with a one-run victory of its own in the nightcap, 5-4.

Jackson went 3-for-3 in the 2-1 setback in the opener, accounting for  half of Mount Mercy's base hits.

Jackson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the 5-4 victory in Game 2. His  RBI double in the bottom of the ninth snapped a 4-4 tie, driving in  Austin Hilpipre and giving the Mustangs a walk-off victory.

Hilpipre was 3-for-3 and scored twice in the nightcap. Collin Shrader  was 2-for-4. Tito Berdecia belted a solo homer.

Mustangs take 4th at Wildcat Cup

INDIANAPOLIS - The Mount Mercy men's golf team moved up a notch  Tuesday and finished fourth out of 18 teams at the Wildcat Cup at the  Brickyard Crossing course in Indianapolis.

Bellevue University won the 36-hole tournament at 14-over-par 590.  Mount Mercy finished at 28-over 604, 14 shots off the pace.

Philip Nelson of Mount Mercy tied for sixth place at 2-over 146.  William Bruyeres tied for eighth at 3-over 147.

Bruyeres leads Mustangs at Wildcat Cup

INDIANAPOLIS - William Bruyeres of Mount Mercy fired a 2-under-par 70  on Monday and is tied for third place after the first round of the  Wildcat Cup at the Brickyard Crossing golf course.

Cameron Luczka of Indiana Wesleyan tore the course apart and holds the  lead at 7-under 65 entering the final round on Tuesday.

Philip Nelson shot an even-par 72 for Mount Mercy. The Mustangs are  tied for fifth place in the team standings at 10-over 298, sitting  eight shots behind the leader entering the final 18 holes.

Campbell shines for Mount Mercy baseball

Dylan Campbell tossed seven shutout innings Sunday as the Mount Mercy  Mustangs blanked Grand View, 8-0, in a Heart of America Conference  baseball game at the Plaster Athletic Complex.

Campbell (3-4) allowed six hits in seven innings, with six strikeouts  and two walks. Brady Donohue and Travis Bowman pitched one inning  apiece in relief to finish the shutout.

Mount Mercy raised its records to 16-17 overall and 11-12 in the  conference. Grand View fell to 6-16 overall and 5-9 in the league.
