Three former athletes and an outstanding supporter will be inducted into the Xavier High School Hall of Fame this Friday.

Greg Hawthorne, Kristin (Jennings) Kahn, Ryan Sweeney and the Rev. Donald Bruggeman will be honored during halftime of Xavier's boys basketball game against Linn-Mar.

Hawthorne, a 1992 graduate of Regis High School, was a member of the golf, baseball, football and basketball teams. He served as team captain of the football team, was named first team all-state and helped Regis reach the state semifinals in 1989 and 1991.

Hawthorne also served as captain of the basketball team, helped the Royals reach the state finals in 1991 and '92 and was named first team all-state. He played football at Northern Iowa.

Kahn, a 2003 Xavier grad, played basketball for four years and helped the Saints compile an 86-16 record. Xavier won the Class 3A state title in 2003 and she was named first team all-state in 2002 and 2003.

Sweeney, also a 2003 Xavier grad, played baseball, basketball and golf for the Saints. He was named first team all-state in baseball in 2003 and was honored as the Louisville Slugger Player of the Year and the Gatorade Player of the Year in 2003.

Sweeney has played for the Chicago White Sox, Oakland A's and Boston Red Sox during his Major League career and hopes to play for the Red Sox again this season.

Rev. Bruggeman spent 25 years in various capacities and served as a counselor and teacher at LaSalle High School from 1970-74. He coordinated committees that helped build St. Jude Catholic Church and Xavier High School.
