Prairie falls short at City High
IOWA CITY – The Prairie Hawks dug themselves into a hole in the first half Thursday night at Iowa City High, barely climbed over the edge with a strong third quarter but then let the game slip out of their grasp.
The Little Hawks notched their first victory of the season by stopping Prairie on what could have been a game-ending possession and followed up with a gut-checking drive of their own for a come-from-behind 27-23 win.
Both Prairie (3-3) and City High (1-5) are now at 1-1 in Class 4A District 6 standings.
“Give them credit,” said a rain-soaked Prairie Coach Mike Morrissey. “They played very well. They played a better game than we did.
“They came out and set a high intensity level, and we just didn’t respond. We did a nice job in the second half. But you can’t win games by playing only one half.”
Iowa City, which had been outscored 170-43 in its first five games, came out on fire in the Thursday night contest scheduled to avoid the Yom Kippur Jewish holiday.
