
Bruner helps Mustangs sweep Peru
Payton Bruner filled her role beautifully in the leadoff spot for the Mount Mercy softball team Saturday.
Bruner went 4-for-6, scored four runs, collected three RBIs, hit two triples and had two stolen bases as the Mustangs swept Peru State, 6-5 and 5-3, in a Heart of America Conference doubleheader at Busse Field.
Bruner, the Mount Mercy shortstop, went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs and two stolen bases in the 6-5 victory in the opener. Tawny Menster was 2-for-3 and pitched a complete game for the win. Jessica Miller and Michelle Mack also had two hits in the first game.
Bruner went 2-for-3 with two runs, two triples and an RBI in the 5-3 victory in Game 2. Sydney Robertson was 2-for-2. Jayna Witzany (9-7) pitched four shutout innings in relief for the victory, allowing just two hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Read more...
