Schuhkraft fires 70 for Mustangs

PRIMM, Nev. - Thomas Schuhkraft of Mount Mercy fired an even-par 70  Monday to lead the Mustangs at the Battle of Primm golf tournament in  Nevada.

Schuhkraft is tied for 16th place heading into the final round  Tuesday, four shots behind the co-leaders at 66.

The Mount Mercy men's golf team is tied for 10th place in the 20-team  tournament at 10-over 290. Oklahoma City scorched the links Monday and  is sitting at 8-under par after 18 holes.

The Mount Mercy women's golf team is in 11th place out of 14 teams at  the Battle of Primm. Casey Noble shot an 11-over 83 for the Mustangs  and is tied for 38th heading into the final round.

Klaahsen stars as No. 4 Eagles sweep

FORT SCOTT, Kan. - Lauren Klaahsen had a day to remember for the Kirkwood softball team Sunday.

Klaahsen went 7-for-7 with a double, triple, home run and six RBIs as  the fourth-ranked Eagles swept Fort Scott, 13-0 and 10-2, in a pair of  five-inning games.

Klaahsen, the designated player for Kirkwood, went 4-for-4 in the 13-0  victory in the first game with a double, triple, two runs and three  RBIs. Randyn Carter was 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Rachel  Stewart was 3-for-4 with two doubles and scored three times. London  Jackson was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Jessi Butler had  two hits.

Erin Hocker tossed a one-hit shutout in Game 1 with two strikeouts and  one walk.

KCC baseball dumps Hudson Valley

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Kirkwood baseball team continued its lusty  hitting in Florida Sunday with a 17-7 victory over Hudson Valley.

The game was stopped in the bottom of the eighth inning by the 10-run  rule as the Eagles scored seven times in the frame.

Kal Youngquist went 2-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs as Kirkwood  squared its record at 6-6 for the campaign.

Taylor Jackson continued his hot hitting in Florida by going 2-for-4  with a home run, four runs scored and four RBIs. Brett Givens was  3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs.

Mustangs bump off Culver-Stockton

A little overnight snow could not stop the Mount Mercy baseball team Sunday afternoon.

The Mustangs enjoyed the comforts of their artificial turf at the Plaster Athletic Complex and dumped Culver-Stockton, 13-3, in a Heart of America Conference game.

Blake Willenborg pitched four shutout innings as the Mustangs jumped to a 12-0 lead. Culver-Stockton finally got to Willenborg for three runs in the fifth, but by then it was too late as he raised his record to 3-0 for the campaign.

Parker Johnson went 3-for-3 with two runs and four RBIs for Mount Mercy. Evan Jackson, Nick Sueppel, Tito Berdecia and Kobi Candaroma all had two hits for the Mustangs.

Jackson stars as Kirkwood sweeps Lakeland

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Taylor Jackson enjoyed a remarkable day for the Kirkwood baseball team Saturday.

Jackson went 8-for-9 with six RBIs as the Eagles swept Lakeland Community College, 16-5 and 10-0, as part of their spring trip to Florida.

The twin-killing lifted Kirkwood to a 5-6 record for the 2019 campaign.

Jackson was 6-for-6 with a triple, three runs and five RBIs in the 16-5 victory in the opener. The fleet center fielder served as the designated hitter in Game 2 and went 2-for-3 with two runs and another RBI.

Zion Pettigrew was 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs in the first game. Levi Usher also went 3-for-5 and scored three times. Gabe Lux scored four runs in the ballgame. Corey Graham was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Kirby Kerr drove in two runs and D'Eric Shenault scored twice.
