Krista Johnson new Xavier volleyball coach

Krista Johnson has been named volleyball coach at Xavier High School, athletics director Mike Winker announced Monday.

Johnson is an assistant coach at Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. She has been at Northern State the last two seasons. Before that she was an assistant coach at Mount Mercy University from 2006 through 2010.

Johnson played college volleyball at the University of Missouri-Columbia and graduated from there in 2002.

Johnson is a Cedar Rapids native and was a standout prep player for Jefferson.

“We are excited to welcome Krista to the Xavier family," Winker said. "Krista has an excellent background in volleyball as both a player and coach. I believe Krista is ready to lead her own program as a head coach and will continue to build on the success of the volleyball program here at Xavier.”

Johnson succeeds Barb Sullivan, who resigned earlier this year after leading Xavier to three state tournament appearances in the last four seasons.
